Why Cost is Not a Reason Not to Play R3E

I have recently been made aware of an interesting post from one of our members here on RaceDepartment which I thought would be interesting to share with all of you loyal readers. The post in question addresses RaceRoom Racing Experience and its potentially prohibitive pricing structure for those new to the simulation.

Speaking from first hand experience and as someone who used to run the R3E Racing Club here on RD, I personally think this sim is one of the most impressive overall packages available today for fans of virtual racing cars to enjoy, with wonderfully reproduced sounds and car / track models accompanied by a number of extremely interesting licences for various real world series, which is exclusive to the game.

Arguably one of the most complete all round 'packages' available on the market today, it always jars me somewhat to constantly see the same sort of comments on forums across the internet questioning the pricing model and costs of becoming involved in this sim as a newcomer to the game. Yes, the pricing model isn't ideal and yes it can be annoying, confusing or awkward to navigate to the best deals but this should not be something that puts off those new to the simulation. Having seen this excellent post by RD member Alx^ I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you his findings, in the hope that you too can find a suitable financial solution that helps you join in with one of the most underrated and enjoyable simulations available today.

".... if anyone's on the fence about it because of the way the store works etc, here is what I did... maybe someone could use it as a loose guide, obviously accounting for their own tastes when purchasing :) I don't know if it's the most optimal way, but it worked well for me. Bare in mind I only ever bought 1 pack at a time, and completed the purchase. That way, the system sees that you already own that content, and applies the relevant discounts to other packs it affects thereafter, as has been covered already at the start of this thread.

I got the 10k vRP voucher from the Raceroom shop. This is €64.99 which is a touch under £46 UKGBP (virtually the same as the AC+DLC 1+2 bundle on steam, fyi). You can find out your own currency conversion by searching in google with "€64.99 in GBP" or whatever your currency happens to be.

Then I bought, in roughly this order:

And I have some vRP left. Buying the Hillclimb pack means you get the track, and also 2 of the cars which are included in the Touring Classics Pack, which I believe is often run alongside DTM 1992, so therefore you would have a choice of 2 cars to race in that. When it comes to completing a pack that you own part of, for example, I have 2 of the cars from the Touring Classics Pack now, it is slightly cheaper to get those missing cars on their own, with only 1 livery each, than it is to buy the now-discounted Pack which you already own part of. The extra cost of the pack seems to be in the multiple liveries you get with it. But it depends on whether you want a choice of livery or not.

I hope that's of use to someone somewhere. Not as expensive as I had thought it was in the past to be honest. It feels better than it did when I first tried it. Maybe that's just me, or maybe their patches have changed things for the better! Have to say, if and when the devs get a rating system into this, and maybe scheduling/calendar of some kind for events... in my opinion it really does have the potential to be an iRacing beater for online stuff. The online-ness of it, web integration, leaderboards and competitions, highlighting the pro's times on the competitions, it's very compelling, and the sound and ffb makes it very immersive..."

Once you have this substantial amount of content you are also more than likely to be able to pick up the missing items you may fancy on one of the many sales offered by RaceRoom, and of course you also have the opportunity to test any of the vehicles available in game for free to help you decide what additional content you may wish to pickup down the line.

To compliment your new purchase(s) RaceDepartment runs a popular online racing club for Premium members to enjoy, featuring various cars and tracks in a friendly environment for you to get your racing kicks alongside your offline play.

I hope this little article helps those of you who are still sat on the fence with R3E, it really is an outstanding sim and deserves to achieve the numbers of users of other more mainstream titles available on the market.

Please let us know in the comments section below if you found this information useful and share your experiences with R3E purchasing and of course enjoying the driving!

Why not bite the bullet and jump in online at the raceclub, we are a friendly bunch and range in skills from me at the back to, well everybody else in front.:whistling: Teamspeak's used but you are not required to talk, it's mainly for alerts as MP still hasn't got quickchat.
Have been considering that for a while now, if time and content is right I'll give it a try. Teamspeak is all set up, need it for the AC club :)

round and round we go, it is not about R3E value, it is a good SIM.
It is about asking too much money in a convoluted way. Trying to justify it does not help R3E, the present business model has to go.
It is mostly hurting guy's like @Tripokaridos who have no one to race with even though he has all the content.
R3E is good, but not that good or different that they can afford the luxury of a screwed up business model, funny discount scheme ( Master 2013 costs around $19 at %70 off, which means the full price was $63 dollars) and over priced content.

About the FFB , for my taste its ok .... About Physics they feel a little bit different but they are better than P.C. for example.

Also I have a problem with my T300RS that's very annoying my Thrustmaste Profile has 900 Degrees of rotation on default and every time I play on Raceroom depending the car it keeps changing my degrees of rotation on THrustmaster profiler. For example I Use GT cars and every time get out of the game Profiler has 540 degrees.
Since the latest update the default steering settings for each car are now correct, delete your profile set it to the default one then map your buttons thus creating a new profile.Put the rest of your setting at what you feel best with.

I like the buisness model of R3E very much. Imagine it like that, if I can pay 5 euro (price of a sandwich that i can eat for 10 minutes) to kunos team or RF2 to make a one car that I like with their qulaity standarts which I will enjoy for months even years I would love to!! Would you pay to your favorite sim a 12 euro (a soccer game ticket for 90 minutes cost 30-40 at least) for a licensed series like blanckpain or wec for example ? I would love to. The content itself worth the money and more.

I would be very happy having AC or RF2 with RRE buisness model and content. And note that having regular incomes also helps developers to improve and support the product quicker and better. Just count how much you pay for your hardware and what part is the price for the software. 5-10 euros for something you will enjoy for months are coins at least for EU and US countries.

I dont realy like the handling and physics in rre, the simulation level is the one that makes me not playing it regulary not the price, I have great fun with RD club races but still do rre just from time to time.

This is my opinion.

So, stopped Logitech Profiler from starting with windows.
Where's that profile i'm supposed to delete?

Will report back after testing :)
If you have a custom profile (ingame) just change to one of the default profiles, test that and make changes to the settings if you feel somethings off. As soon as you start editing the default profile the game will make a copy and save a new custom profile for you.

Personally I think those yellow discount boxes need to go. I can't say I've seen anything on sale for the "full" price (unless I'm blind... entirely possible!)... it is misleading and puts off potential new customers. It was putting me off until I decided to jump in with both feet. Add the yellow discount boxes only for content that you actually get a discount for, ie; because you already own a car or track from that pack say, or because that particular car is actually on offer at 50 vRP... that makes sense. But having everything by default showing as "discount, full price normally 6999" doesn't help anyone. It's confusing and off-putting. Kinda why I posted what I did, because once you dip your toe in, it makes a bit more sense, thought it might help a few people who did want to jump in.

Obviously the game its self, well it's like any other game; personal preference. I personally would love to see this become an R3E/rF2 hybrid, with the nerdgasm features and flexible single player of rf2, and online ratings and scheduling like iR. The only bits of AC I would add are Ferrari and Lambo, but I think doing it by series instead is better :) I think visually R3E is every bit as good as AC, and sonically it blows everything else out of the water, beats them to death with a large bat, puts the mashed up pulp on a raft made of sticks, and sends it for a burial at sea :D

All personal opinion ofc :)

I like much of what R3E has to offer and might play it if I could get decent FFB using SC4. I already own quite a bit of the content but, the FFB just lets it down compared to other titles. R3E may be the only title that I struggle to get good or even just proper FFB. The game FFB just feels floaty and sloppy and SC4 doesn't seem to communicate with the telemetry at a usable level; I only get a very faint FFB signal through SC4.

I purchased DTM 2013 for like $5 during a Steam sale and I don't regret it. I have ADAC GT on my list as well and it has come to prices I've found to be a bargain, but I know I don't have time to race another package.

One thing I like a LOT about RRRRRRE is that they sell packages! I will never buy a one-off car, and I stopped buying AC and PC DLC that add 2 incompatible cars and 3 tracks. I would much rather add a series as content, and Sector 3 provides that option. I wish AC would take notice before they try to add more Lotus Evoras...

The FFB is off, no doubt about it. It takes getting used to after racing every other sim, but race it long enough in one session and you adapt. Once I'm in the throes of a DTM race weekend, I am very engrossed in the competition. But for Pete's sake, we can't save the car setup from race to race? Weak.

4.- If you buy a single car and think "I only like this one, then I'll race the AI which will have all other cars!" it won't work. It works in MP, which is good, but not with AI. I tested it my self buying the most cheap GT3 car and it doesn't work.

Hello, just thought we should correct statement #4.
It is factually wrong and actually is how everyone found out about the additional cars in the GT3 class that were pushed last patch. People found out because AI's are using them.

Agree, I havo not own even single complete packet, only single cars mostly because I race RD club races, but sometimes do AI races and it works to have only one car from the package.

I like it alot... im one of those maniacs that buy all the content for all sims, if i add up all spent it i extremely expensive.... and the fact that they Sell goddam skins makes me really sad, more, on certain series if you do a campionship and everyone decides to choose a certain car its like watching war of the clones....

Very good article! thanks for sharing!

Yes, it seems that iRacing and RRRE are the poster child for the "sour grapes" crowd complaints about pricing. As you article mentions the cost is not that high to enjoy a lot of RRRE content.

i made this meme for iracing but it can also apply to rrre! ;)

Well if you're talking Singleplayer championship then AI will choose from all of the liveries, not only the one you own.
If you're talking Multiplayer championships, the risk of everyone choosing the same car is very slim, and considering that most (if not all) car packs come with all liveries included I think you'll find that a large majority of online racers own other liveries than the "default" one.
Also, since of recently, when you buy a single car you no longer get a default livery, you get to choose one of the available liveries as the one that comes with the car.

The thing that stops me playing is getting tapped by the ai sends me flying off track yet do the same to the ai and it just carries on. Even the slightest tap will send me off track. Also the ai is too timid. Races turn into processions
