Like ML2166 said, its all about alpha channel. Its work for this picture driver files like a mask, so all is in white on the alpha channel will be shower everything under the black wont be showed. The best way, copy and past Kovalainen picture in the alpha channel, put it in white with blending option with a black background

Doing a transparent image without changing the alpha layer will give you exactly the same result as you are seeing now to a degree. He would be far better off cutting around Heikki and removing the background, make a duplicate layer, adjust the levels all the way up so Hekki is pure white, then on a layer below fill with black, merge them together select all, copy and paste it onto the alpha layer. Remove now the b&w layer from the image so Hekki is back in full colour, and save as a .dds. No more shadow, no more wrongly fitting image.

Don't want to be rude or anything else but the only changed thing i see on that car is the number and the mercedes text on side along with the richard milles text. Not that much of a big work. Should at least changed some sponsors and take off the PDSVA logo from the nose as i can see that is there. Maldonado won't be in williams so PDSVA is leaving.
