Test 2 @ Catalunya 21st - 24th February 2012

His best lap was a 1:21.268, which was over a second faster than his actual Q3 lap later on in the season. Sure, it was set on supersofts, but it still seems kind of strange the car didn't get better at all during that time.

Wondering how much will change with the new enginemappings for the Renault and Mercedes teams.

"
Team using Renault and Mercedes engines have to change maps before season start otherwise FIA will not allow them to race in Melbourne
Teams will receive technical directive from FIA in the coming days..."

However:
"Craig Scarborough @ScarbsF1

Talking to several designers,
there isn't a tech directive out on exhausts. It seems CW asked for no overtly blown aero set ups"

''Reminds me of a BTCC qualifying session a couple of years ago when a team's number two driver took his maiden pole. So convinced was the team boss that this was mistake, he went straight to the championship organisers to explain that he thought his team had accidentally mixed up the transponders with the number one driver. He nearly fell over when told that 'nope, there's no mistake. He genuinely was just fast."

Brilliant!:)

HAHAHA

I would love to see another Champion in the other car, we need to see Vettel compete with an equal driver.

Yeah that would be a very interesting comparison indeed, although watching anyone of SV's pole laps from last year one would deduce that it's humanly imposible to go any faster in a F1 car, even considering the current grid

In 08 he won the Qual battle with Bourdais at 13-4 (one no time for Vet)
So he´s definitely beatable, especially if you put a champion or a highly ranked driver in the other seat.

He´s had Webber and Boudais as his teammates for a full season. Not exactly known for their speed ;)
More impressive in 09 was Hamilton getting some poles in the dog, and even Trulli in the other dog called Toyota.
A season dominated mainly by Button and Vettel in terms of qualifying.
