rF2 Studio 397 GTE @ Virginia International Raceway - Fri 07Sep18

rFactor 2 Racing Club event
Well that's just bloody great.

About 12 minutes in, I either ran over something on track which jammed in my left front wheel, or my ffb decided to break, as the car suddenly decided it wanted to pull hard left despite not having hit anything. I couldn't remember what my ffb reset key was bound to (had to move it off my wheel and onto my keyboard after getting a new wheel) and a on-off cycle of my wheel left me with no ffb at all.

Yay. Also I did do a fairly wild rejoin at one point, but as someone pointed out you're a passenger when you get onto the grass here at high speed, and slamming the brakes on could have been much worse than easing back onto the track.

That was my worst race. Changed car setup after quali and car became oversteery at high speeds which caused many "trips" off the track. I believe on first lap I collided with Damian, after while realized it was my fault because he was in front and I was too optimistic. Sorry for that.

What a race! That was amazing!
I just had no grip when all cars where together, that destroyed my tires pretty bad, could not do that fast S sector flat out anymore. In the end I went to the grass and there was a Porsche stopped, managed to dodge it but crashed the wall

I believe that was me speeding past you when you rejoined - got my blood pumping! Had I hit you it'd would have been equally my fault because I just kept my foot in :D

I'm in desperate need of a setup for these things, god I was awful. Spun a top speed numerous times and also got hit. Quite an eventful and somewhat shamble of a race. At least I managed to salvage a top 10.

First time at this track and quite liked - a few silly mistakes due to fiddling with Brake bias and TC setting cost me a place but overall no major or costly mistakes got me up to 8th and with in touching distance of 7th

Fun race all things considered. Could've gone better for me, but could've gone worse either I guess. I just wish I didn't do so many costly mistakes...

Thanks for the race!

Had to give 100% until the very end, had an easy time building a 3.5sec gap to 2. place but it was impossible build a bigger gap. Once @PresidentSmug took p2 the gap was 4.5sec and he managed to close the gap down to 1.9 sec. Was sweating hardcore trying to manage the gap, tires and lapping cars ;)
See you next time!

I underfueled a bit and ran in mode 3 whole race. but I don't think i could've kept up with you anyway as the setup wasn't really working for the race. Probably could've gotten closer in Q but crashed in to a car spinning back on track. So didn't get to have a final go at it.

Was a somewhat lonely race after I dropped to P3 but it's a fun track and a fun car! :)

Had a good bit of fun yesterday.

Had a few nice battles (with Balazs, Simon and Gasper especially) as well as a nice time trying to hunt down 6th position, sorry but today I can't remember who it was I was trying to catch up to...

All in all, just as good a combination as I thought it'd be. VIR is deffinitely a drivers track and very forgiving to misstakes (overall, it can certainly bite but you need to go way off to pick up a lot of damage) and the racing it provides is top-notch with several good passing opportunities for the brave (or foolish dependent on how the move goes...).

Also, sorry for the mess I caused going up the esses a bit into the race. I had a run on Balazs and tried to stay around the outside going up there, it didn't go well once the road went right again. I hope everyone who were involved survived without damage at least :(

Unlike usual, I am going to keep this one very brief! :p And I will start by saying thank you to everyone who took part in this event, and congratulations to those who managed to make it to the end of what was an incredibly tough race for many of us, and for many reasons.

This had to be my worst race in quite some time... For the past few weeks I have been feeling pretty good behind the wheel but this felt like a big step backwards for me, even beyond my slump and lack of confidence earlier this year. The fact that I was unfamiliar with the track probably did not help the situation, but every time I felt as though I was making progress something went wrong... :cautious: The biggest of these issues included being punted off on the opening lap of the race at 'Roller Coaster' - quite an aptly named corner - and completely losing all grip from my tyres about half way through the race even though they seemed to be at an "optimum" temperature and were only ~20% worn.

@avenger82, regarding the collision, it's fine - I apologise for snapping at you for the second week in a row, but as you can probably imagine I was rather frustrated at the time because the incident left me with a damaged front wing and about half a lap behind the next car.

As for the tyres, I probably wasn't the only person to be bitten by their inability to provide any stability once they have been worn by a certain amount, or overheated on multiple occasions (as a result clipping the grass and spinning). By the midway point they had started to lose their effectiveness, and by the end of the race they were as good as useless - it was like driving on ice.

In spite of this, I loved the track! :roflmao: So we will definitely be going back there at some point in the not too distant future! ;)

As I am sure you are already aware, there shall be no club event this Friday as I will be with the RD crew at the SimRacing EXPO. However, events shall recommence next week - the thread shall be created shortly! I look forward to seeing you guys again in just under a fortnight! :D

Thanks as always for hosting! I'd driven this track once before in AC, but the cars were new to me. Awesome combo though, wow.

No need to feel bad about struggling. For me anyway, this is a combination where I'd need loads of practice (and a lot more talent! :p) to be anything like competitive, or even consistent. In qualy I didn't manage to get a clean lap in due to traffic, then in the race unfortunately my progress was halted when i was gently escorted into the weeds :whistling: To be fair the chap in front might not have known I was alongside. Anyway it was fun trying to fight back through the pack!

Likewise i was having issues with the tyres after the midpoint of the race, but now after speaking to a buddy who's far more accustomed to these cars than i am, I understand that this is a typical characteristic of the porker. Anyway i also ended up sliding off the circuit a couple more times of my own accord. Quite a challenge for sure!

Either way I'll definitely be looking forward to more races with either this track, or this car :D

Enjoy the expo in the meantime! :)
