I wouldn't say 'correct' as such
It's more of a euphemism from the southern states of the US. As usual, urban dictionary is a useful reference point here (although I should point out that I've never used 'hot dang' in the way that's described!! )

I meant my grammatical mix of tenses with all the would's, have's and be's but yeah, gonna lookup "dang" too
