Download speed is inconsistent, one moment I will be downloading between 4-10 MB/s then next minute I cant get over 500 kb/s

Right now it seems to be doing this thing where it will download for about 2-3 seconds, then go into a paused state, then download for 2-5 more seconds, rinse and repeat.

I originally thought that this was a download limit on a free account, but even after purchasing premium, still same result.

Downald rates are a joke. Why does this never ever get fixed? 80k/sek. Coming back in 30 min. for the next floppy disc ...

If you only signed up for premium to try and help the download rates then you can ask the staff here for a refund. I'm fairly certain there is a slight priority on premium, but during busy times the server seems so swamped it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Really premium is there to remove ads and get the password for the on-line races organised here, i.e. more for those who regularly interact on the site.

Looking at that animated image you posted (kudos BTW for actually taking the time to post something useful rather than just saying it's slow), I suspect the download is limited per host, so having multiple streams active isn't a way to get around the limit and you are probably better doing one at a time (I seem to remember this is designed to thwart download managers from swamping the server)

I know it's not always ideal, but downloading during less busy times is usually a lot less frustrating, at least in my experience.

Try again in 4-5 hours, when Europe is asleep, Asia has its morning and US isn't at home yet.
Sunday evening in Europe is the worst time of the week for the servers.
Maybe Saturday is even worse, but I'd say Sunday comes second.

It doent matter for me which day or night im downloading here at RDP. Its since about 6-8 months, since then i get these ultra low download speeds, everyday, and the clock doesnt play a role, for my download speed....Ive also tried different browser's and vpn's, but with the same slow speed results....

Damn.. Sorry to hear that!

For me, the speeds fluctuated depending on day and time but yeah, never really great..

Having Premium made everything perfect again though with 4-7 MB/s whenever I download something.

Ouch, that definitely sucks.... Do you have the time to provide some diags? A quick ping to get the TTL (so we can figure out the number of hops) and RTT:

e.g. ping 31.204.153.0

Then a traceroute so we can see the hops. This doesn't terminate for me (probably load balancing), so you might want to stop it once you see network addresses like 109.200.218.x.

e.g. tracert /d 31.204.153.0

From this we can estimate the number of bytes in flight you would get with the default TCP window and see if there is a specific hop causing you grief

Yeah totally get it about if its limited its per host, this was more so a well I am going to have to leave it to download for a while, may as well do a few at once lol. and the ad free experience is nice, I will see how I feel at the end of the month.

Thanks for the info!

Since you are clearly using content manager, I totally recommend giving the AC racing group a go whilst you have premium e.g. https://www.racedepartment.com/thre...x5-redbullring-tue-29th-november-2022.252173/. They are a great bunch of reprobates who got me hooked into this whole malarkey and whilst they totally crushed me on track to begin with, provided tons of advice to get me up to speed so I didn't get lapped all the time :) I have since migrated to AMS2, but only because I'm trying to support that group and I don't have enough free time to do both. They are also a great bunch if you have that sim too: https://www.racedepartment.com/thre...atch-indy-thursday-1-dec.251894/#post-3615121

Sadly you're one of those affected by the issues between i3D (our ISP) and DTAG (yours), which are waaaay beyond our control to fix.

You may also be affected by the i3D/DTAG issues, but 200 MB in 15 minutes is not far off 2 Mb/s which isn't out of line with the typical speeds available at peak times to all non-Premium users.

If a download at say 9am UTC on a weekday is truly not any quicker for you then I can only imagine it's the i3D/DTAG problem affecting the speeds, but my understanding of that problem had been that it was also mainly showing up at peak times.

At present (things might change) speeds are not limited on a per-host basis. The behaviour you saw was probably because the server (and other network infrastructure??) was deeply overloaded, but nonetheless the Premium account should be letting you download multiple mods in parallel at reasonable speeds (typically many tens of megabits per second per mod). Reports of this not working as expected are very welcome.

I'll reiterate that we're still trying to solve this whole "slow download" problem more generally.

I got this issue for several months now already. The download speed is damn low. I got 150mbit connection but I'm downloading with 400kb/s max on your site.
No, its not my internet. Are you doing that on purpose? To force people to get that shitty premium account?

Site performance is awful indeed, I've been trying to download the same 3 mods for over 2 hours, and I always get "Network" and the donwload doesn't finish (And to no one's suprise, it downloads at a top of 890bits per second).

I've been reloading this specific page for 30 minutes just to be able to comment this because even site performance is terrible.

Don't feel like paying premium after this oddisey, tell you that much.

I've had wildly fluctuating d/l speeds here for a couple of days (2meg one second, less than 1k a few seconds later, may even briefly stop altogether) but, fwiw, it's been the same on some other sites. Remember, your signal may go through a dozen nodes from your computer to this server, your speed will be that of the slowest node on the route. It's like driving on a country road, the speed limit may be 50 but if one car is going 30 guess what your speed will be.

If you use a VPN try a different server, sometimes that reroute will bypass the bottleneck.

I've tried a few random downloads and am getting 20Mb+ at the time of typing this - I'm in UK it's 17:26 GMT. Perhaps checking download speed using a speed test site might be interesting?
I generally use fast.com when doing a speed test.

I get that this is frustrating for you. Given the time of day at which you posted (roughly 3am UTC) I took a look at the details in our logs, because our server is normally very lightly loaded at that time of day, and indeed this was the case - the network utilisation was less than 50% for the entire time that you were having this experience and the server was not remotely struggling. This means our server isn't the actual cause of the problem you had, and it's likely to be something in between your ISP and ours. I recommend asking your ISP if they can comment on this.

I can see that you appear to have successfully downloaded at least one of the mods you were seeking after multiple attempts (after posting the message above), albeit at extremely low speeds (average rate for that file seems to have been around 200 kbits/s), and at least one of the larger mods was repeatedly unsuccessful.
Strangely, the amount of data transferred for the successful download was significantly larger than the actual file (~30% more than 17 MB), which makes me wonder if connection issues were triggering this behaviour... I've not seen that kind of thing before.
