Should Formula 1 cars have closed cockpits?

I would say yes. It definately will make F1 safer.
You got no idea what crap can hit you in a open cockpit race car.
Although i sit alot higher in my car, compared to F1 drivers, but i have climbed out the car with massive bruises after being struck by small stones etc.
So take it at F1 speed, and those things can kill you.

A small stone would do nothing to a F1 helmet.

A Closed Cockpit version of Redbull

^thats just an unrealistic prototype, Until I see it run in real life at those speeds while it tears the drivers neck off its shoulders....even with a close cockpit ;)

plus I highly doubt "closed" cockpit F1 cars will anythign like the prototpyes we see. Lets keep F1 lore of open cockpits! F1 = the fastest and dangerous motorsport....apart from hunting big foots and black bears on a moddedoff road golf kart....referring to hilbillies :p
