Seat for my recently purchased Sim Lab P1 Rig?

Hi, I am looking for a seat to fit for my recently purchased Sim Lab P1 Rig (Wheeldeck version).

I am 6' foot 1" (185 cm) and 18+ Stone (117Kg) and 50+ years old with a budget of circa £150.
I like to drive Open wheel and GT sim cars (Fanatec DD1, CSPV2, 1.5 shifter and handbrake + Rseat rig. Currently using the Rseat as my current Seat on the P1. With Intention of moving to Heusinkveld sprints/pro as soon as I can)).

I think, I am after a secondhand (out of date) bucket seat?
What seat should I be looking at for the P1, do you think and why?

I see a local OMP trs-e X1 extra large (steel framed) for sale etc.
Is Steel framed better or worse, than Fibreglass?

Should I be looking for a reclining bucket seat for open wheel?
What about Side or Under seat Mounting options, do they both work well with the P1?

How do these work with the P1's Pedal setup, raise or lower, slide in or out? I occasionally have other drivers on the Rig, but not often.

Can I attach my Tactile Transducer to the seat directly ?

Thanks for your suggestions

I own an R333 and am 6'1" and slim build, typical regular mountain biker physique. The R333 is a snug fit, especially across the shoulders. Perfect for me, but if you are 6' 1" and 18+ stone I image you'd have to butter your hips just to get into it.
As others have said, test before you buy if you identify something that you think might be suitable. Racing seats come in a wide range of shapes and sizes.
I am more of a Brick **** house shape, than snowman shape :). But good advice, I will call into Demon Tweeks and assess.

Have you considered a good quality OEM car seat?. I use a BMW 1 series F20 Msport seat. Great ergonomics, mechanical adjustment for height, tilt, fore/aft, thigh support adjustment and headrest ( it's so adjustable it can be used in GT tyle or semi-formula style on the fly if you move the pedals and wheel position to suit). If only the pneumatic bolsters adjustment and heated elements were connected

I got mine for £50 from a BMW breakers yard and it looks like new.

The Sparco Rev and most bucket seats are "FIA Approved" and therefore cost more. You don't need a FIA approved seat for simracing. Search for non FIA approved bucket seats and you will find some closer to your budget. (e.g. GP Race £172.50; Motamec - £229; Cobra £190.)

I have a GP Race and it's the most comfortable seat in my house, although I'm a lot smaller than you. Got mine from GSM Motorsport. Give them a call and they can advise on size. They are used to selling to simracers.

I had a Recaro from an Escort RS Turbo in my old rig and it was supremely comfortable. I still miss it.

Where are you seeing these prices? I’m seeing much higher markup but not sure where to look.

I ended up getting an NRG Prisma from carid.com. It was under $400 delivered.

It's very comfortable gives me great back support, doesn't flex on me and just feels great!

It was a bit weird at first, but either the seat cushions broke in and molded to me, or I just got used to being in a shell seat, but I love it now. The down side is a number of my friends can no longer fit in my seat.

I was surprised that someone told me they got a Bride "knock off" for about $300. Pretty sharp looking.

I paid £148, shipping incl. VAT excl. for a Cobra Monaco Sport (non-FIA)
Was around black Friday though, but there are options available at that price point...

I'm not too keen on the lower back support though. 2h without a pillow and I'm in pain...

Do you have back issues normally?
I know some people who have have back issues and specifically purchased additional back cushions for support.

FWIW I've had zero back pain since I got my new seat.

The Cobra Monaco Sport is a steel frame seat as opposed to a shell which would complicate the addition of exciters for tactile applications.

I've decided that I'm going to stick with my comfy shell long term and will never attempt to create anything like the GS-5, or buy a GS-5. Comfort is critical or I won't want to race.
It's bad enough that this morning I looked at Silverstone with 18 turns and just decided that my heart wasn't in it right now and it seemed like work and not fun. Maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow.

I went to a pick-and-pull and did some legwork and am super happy with the passenger seat I found in a Mitsubishi Eclipse for about $50Black leather bucket style seat but not too aggressive on side support (which isn't necessary on a sim rig) so I can sit in it for hours and hours without discomfort. Passenger seats tend to be in better shape. As is common, 4 bolts to the floor and you walk away with the seat and its mount, so you're getting:
- all of the seat back / lumber / angle adjustments (possibly even electric if you want to go that way)
- full forward / backwards adjustment as you have in the car (because you grabbed the frame)
- depending on the car you might end up with a sensor (used to deactivate the airbag if there isn't > 90lb on the seat) that you could build into your setup. Wish I had one.. I'd add a relay to the power source for my transducer amps so they automatically turned on and off when I sit down.
- these seats are usually constructed in parts, e.g. the lower seat pan is bolted to the frame. On mine this made it trivially easy to add rubber isolators between the seat frame and the lower cushion to maximize the impact of the bass transducer mounted under the seat.

On mine the mounting rails are 18.5" wide and 3 of the 4 holes are on the same plane. The 4th hole needed a 1" spacer. Mine also has a side airbag but thankfully it's not hooked up to the games :)
