rF2 S397 GT3 @ Zandvoort - Fri 05 Jun 2020

rFactor 2 Racing Club event
@Daiman Patel

Quick question: In my one and only race so far on RD (GT3 @ Silverstone in AC), I think you had to nominate your preferred car beforehand - this doesn't seem to be the case here. Do you just turn up on the day in whatever car (of the correct class) you please?

Also: It's a 50 minute race, is there a compulsory pit stop / window? I suppose if you can make your tyres last the full race then good for you :)

You do not have to sign up with a car for the event, you may choose your car on raceday. And there are no mandatory pit stop, as these cars can go the full distance on a full tank of fuel :)

Thanks for the quick answer Roy!

What do people normally do in these races - stop for fuel? for tyres?

p.s. by answering truthfully you wouldn't be helping the competition, because I doubt I'll be much competition LOL

As far as I know, the only ones who have toured the pit lane has been the ones that has been given penalties for cutting etc. by the game, no one for tyres or fuel :)

@Roy Magnes & @Herlev, cheers for responding guys!

Hi @butcher85! As @Roy Magnes has rightly said, there is no need to declared which car you would like to drive before our rFactor 2 club events - you can turn up on the night and pick whichever car takes your fancy, or maybe a car for which other drivers on the server have shared a setup! Ultimately the choice is yours to make any time before the start of the race.

The only exception is when we host multi-class races (which is admittedly not very often). In this instance we ask participants to state the class in which they would like to drive, but drivers are still free choose any car in that class before the start of the race.

Regarding pit stops, they are not compulsory (there is actually no way of enforcing this in rFactor 2). However, for a 50 minute race a pit stop is not actually necessary in these cars. The fuel tank is just big enough to last, and soft tyres should hold out for the duration. :)

Drivers do not typically stop in these races. A slap on the wrist or an insufferable flat spot are pretty much the only reasons for visiting the pits. :giggle:

HAHAHA! Don't worry, I'm more than happy to answer your questions! :geek:

I got Zandvoort 2.27 subscribed, when I go to join, it says 'different version'. ...of what I don't know. Has someone been on the server? Please advise to find out what is happening.

I can confirm that the track version you have got installed is correct. Have you made sure that your game is up to date following the release of Build 1118 a couple of weeks ago - it sounds like you may still be running Build 1117. To force an update of the game, if Steam hasn't started the update itself, go to the Steam Properties menu for rFactor 2 and verify the integrity of the game files.

Once you are sure that Build 1118 is installed you can download the server mod from here, and use this to ensure that all of the components you have installed are of the correct / required version.

OK, my steam build is 1119 (steam?), when I go to join RD on the server it sayes my build is 1118 (rf2?), but it's still saying 'different version' in red down where you 'Join Race'.
I don't know where you find this "go to the Steam Properties menu for rFactor 2 ".
I can run fine offline.

edit: On steam, I cleared the update cashe, it said I was up to date, logged out of steam and back in the game, joining the issues are still there.
edit2: I dl'd the 'gte rd package' and installed it. Still no go on the server. I have about 3 or 4 Zandvoort tracks in rF2, multiple version 1.07 or something. Is it possible that the 'gte rd package' is installing in one of those other ones?

My apologies, it appears that Studio 397 has released a new update for rFactor 2... once again without any prior warning, or indication after the fact. Before you mentioned "your" issue with trying to join the server I was not aware of the new release. Turns out that the problem is actually at this end. Build 1119 is the latest version, so what you have got installed is correct but the server build is out of date. I shall sort this out right away. :geek:

For future reference: right click on rFactor 2 in Steam, select 'Properties', click on the 'Local Files' tab, and you will then see a button labelled "Verify integrity of game files...". Click this and Steam will verify your rFactor 2 installation, and hopefully force an update to the latest build.
