Grass FX only overrides older 3D grass if there’s a line asking for it in that track’s config file. Delete those lines and they won’t be replaced
Yes, that's what rusty suggested as well, but making changes to all the tracks just to make one happy is not very scalable solution, esp. when these configurations are auto-updateable.
It's fine really, you've made very good points on how laborious good 3D grass making can be.
May be 3080Ti or whatever else NVidia is brewing will put all these concerns to rest.

The way I see it grassfx adds the grass part of the track foliage. You still have your occasional longer grasses, flowers and other smaller standout parts of the grassy grasses you can make in 3d (if you want to). But the automated grassfx is amazing how much time it saves. Not to mention if you do 3d grass it takes 10 hours+ like lilski said and if you need to move the ground up or down just 5cm you need to do the grass again. Same if you edit the grass rgba mask texture which places different grasses on the ground. Grassfx is not just quick and looks good but it also autoadjusts to the track meshes so you can literally make grass on the way to your first track export and have it then just work until the final release a year later no matter how much or what you edit in your track. Grassfx is those things that on the surface look like really minor thing but is a massive improvement in the end. My only gripe with grassfx is that if you have fully made 3d grass there is no way to turn off or adjust the grassfx when car goes over the grass and that effect of grass mowing which looks bad on 3d grass.

I like it a lot! As far as AI - they tend to crash at 0.36 so a hint will make them aware of the tricky corner
Code:
[BRAKEHINT_0]
START=0.32
END=0.35
VALUE=0.8

And to the authors - I don't get it, making the inner parts of the track presentable and cutting us off with hollow bridges and tunnels. As soon as I felt happy that someone already did the cruize possible - I fell down. But thanks for getting it this far!

PS - Don't flatter youself with a lap of 1.48 because you will be up against this lot

Thank you
Is your AI fix to stop them crashing on the first corner?

crashing on the first corner

Mine is for "Turn 5". If you bring up the "DRS Zones" app in game you can see the counter "NSP" and edit the hints to add more for "Turn 1" but I don't see many AI crashing there. Test with different cars to single out the problem - it may be AI that needs training.

If you are like me a fan of the freeroaming here's a track map that might make it more fun.
map.png

To have it working see the attached - remove .txt and unzip in "..\content\tracks\lilski_road_america\". Firstly make copies of the original "map.png" and ""..\data\map.ini" to have an easy way back.

Here's a copy/paste of what I wrote about it earlier in the thread:

I've just had a good chance to drive and race on this track properly. It is pretty much perfect. Such a pleasure to drive on!
Thank you.

I've noticed a small problem with AI (or a kerb): I've been racing with a grid of RSS's GT1 cars (Ferrucio, Lanzo etc). What I just experienced was that on almost every race start at the first corner, one of the AI would clip the kerb in such a way that the AI would crash quite badly. I then re-started the race (about 8 times) until the AI could smoothly get past the first corner. I wonder if the AI needs a tweak or if there is a bit of a ridge or bump on that first corner that is causing the cars to crash/lose control.

I had a perfect race after that though. :)

the part that's crashing for me are the animated marshalls, disabling those makes it load for me , but no idea what this could be collinding with, I have almost no apps other then what comes with CSP

if there is a bit of a ridge

Some of the edges of the track are hollow a bit so be cautious not to go off at all. The AI will have a hard time if their training is poor - clipping the apexes, running wide, stopping too late... That is why you need to find a car which has bulletproof AI and test with it first. Off the top of my head can't think of any of the Kunos ones. In game enable "AI" app, let AI drive in "Hotlap" and watch if it strays off the purple line more than the half width of the car. If yes - poor AI.
Maybe this general hint can help without slowing the pace
Code:
[DANGER_0]
START=0
END=1
LEFT=0.6
RIGHT=0.6
I like the edges reacting like that. Makes the racing more challenging.

Can I put that AI hint in the same file along with the other AI hint you posted in this thread for (i think) turn 5?

Code:
[lilski_road_america]
LATITUDE=43.797710
LONGITUDE=-87.989587
TIMEZONE=America/Chicago

This needs to be added into "C:\Users\*******\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\extension\data_track_params.ini" in order for the CSP 24-h cycle to work correctly. Enjoy the "Morning Drive" and "Sunset Cruising" :)

Pretty sure this track has coordinations in its json file, which gets used for the correct world location. The data track parameters is for Kunos tracks I think.

For me that file is not in documents, it's here: "steamapps\common\assettocorsa\extension\config\data_track_params.ini"

Same thing, right?

Edit: never mind. just saw Johns post

It may seem unnecessary to some of you but for us on GMT +2 time zone it is the difference between dark and day. That file comes with the CSP and holds values that are used by the patch for many tracks. I know the "ui.json" has the coordinates but for some reason all versions of CSP and Sol that I tried so far read from "data_track_params.ini". That file in "..\assettocorsa\extension\config\" gets updated with CSP and will be overwritten the next time so anything you add in there will be lost. Better make a copy of it into "C:\Users\*******\Documents\Assetto Corsa\cfg\extension\data_track_params.ini" and you can have a top level data that works regardless of updates.

John and Lilski, maybe it will be good if you contact x4fab and request the GPS data to be included in the next update of CSP.

Something is not right then. The reason to have the geo location tag in the json is to do just that, set the track for timezone and sun positioning.

I was under the assumption the data_track_params was info for tracks that didnt have a proper geo tag, or modeled correctly to face north.

We do reach out to x4fab, but not to include our projects in global files.. we want the opposite, we need the track folder to prioritize over everything to avoid this issue.

Can you delete that line in the data_track_params and show us a screenshot of the track, for example, around 2:00pm in your time zone?

Thanks
