Studio 397 have been incredibly busy of late, having today confirmed their third piece of content for the simulation in quick succession.

The brand new Radical SR3 XX joins the recently released New York E-Prix and Ferrari 488 GTE within the simulation, and is available to purchase with immediate effect from the rF2 Steam Store, for around £4.50.

From the release post:

There’s been a lot of announcements and fresh new content to play with lately, but we’re far from finished. Today it is time to introduce you to a truly unique choice for race drivers, combining everything you want in a race car. Fast, lightweight, nimble and with the looks to ensure that you won’t go unnoticed on any server.

Our world is an evolving and developing place. Motorsport is continuously moving forward. So is sim racing and technology in general. To be a front runner, you have to always stay on top of this movement. Being up the front is exactly where the new Radical SR3 XX belongs. It’s not just a faster but also a smarter car! So we are proud to collaborate with Radical Sportscars on its launch. You can read all about it on their website: the world’s best selling race car just got smarter!

The SR3 XX is the evolution of the best-selling race car in the world, the SR3 which was first introduced in 2001. While the styling mostly remained untouched with just a few key elements setting the XX apart from its predecessor, underneath it’s an all new track weapon.

Radical knows that not just the car needs to evolve to be quicker, but that also drivers need the best tools to move forward and develop themselves. That’s the reason for all the new bits and pieces mainly by provided by AiM. The first thing noticed by drivers as most prominent change is probably the new steering wheel. A brand new Formula style steering wheel, fully packed with technology normally only found in high-level single-seaters and Le Mans Prototypes. Functioning basically as the HUB, the new AiM steering wheel now gives the driver access to all kind of new functionalities to access, evaluate and analyze data, helping to improve on track.

The fresh SR3 XX is still powered by the 4th Gen RPE-Suzuki engine including a dry sump oil system as standard. The power plant is hooked up to a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shift and auto-blip function, a Quaife limited-slip differential taking care of getting enough traction out of the corner.

With only 620 kg total weight, the Radical SR3 XX is the perfect tool to carve your way through all kind of combinations of corners.

You can buy the car now in our Steam Store! We will be hosting a launch event later today, details of which are towards the bottom of the announcement on Radical’s site.

You will probably struggle to reach solid 120 fps on an 8700k.

And yes, the new UI is only in beta.

Ok did a race, 16 on the grid (10 viewable) and it was definitely better than previous tests: 85 FPS at the start and it went up to as high as 118 with an avg of about 105, they must have optimized something since I was here last!

Monaco is pretty closed up it terms of view distance, so I should probably test on a big track like Le Mans to confirm, but I'm quite pleased with how it looks and performs now.

I switched back to the old UI because the game crashed twice tonight already: once while loading a session (crash to desktop) and the other when exiting a session (stuck on blank white screen for over 5 mins, I force quit).

Will definitely be picking up these two cars...Love the 488 but I've never drove the Radical in any sim. I did drive the HPD in the Le Mans 6Hr in iRacing on Saturday....will check those out tomorrow to see how they compare.

busiest CPU thread at around 50% avg
If by "CPU thread" you mean "CPU core", then that doesn't really tell you much about how close to the limit you were due to how thread scheduling tends to work. However the GPU being at 98% is a fair indication that you still have at least some CPU headroom.

By thread I meant thread...the other thread on that core was idle. In fact only 4 cores were being used, and only 1 thread in each core.

But you are obviously talking about CPU threads, as in "virtual cores" (which might just as well be simply called cores nowadays, as there's basically no difference between virtual cores and physical ones), not the actual application threads. Which is why looking at them doesn't really tell you much about how the application is using its threads and how much headroom they have.

(I honestly think the fact there are two technically different - although related - things called "thread" in modern computing creates a lot of unnecessary confusion.)

a way of buying DLC that isn't unnecessarily complex
Be careful, you can't say stuff like that without rF2 diehards like MarcG ridiculing you. I share your opinion, the item store is a mess, especially if you already own some of the content. I don't understand how people can defend this system as if they personally programmed it. Why make it unnecessary hard for your users?

Have you learned to use the mouse yet? :D
From the Library page on Steam it's literally one Mouseover and then one left mouse button click to see the Items you own.

I don't see how on earth that is difficult to use, you go there, see what content you own in 5 seconds flat, job done.

Is it ideal? Probably not
Could it better? Quite possibly yes, but is that down to Steam or S397?
Is it that hard to use? Absolutely not
Is it a first world problem? Absolutely not
Are there bigger fish to fry in RF2? Absolutely

:)

I think it is out of control of S397, the store is used to sell microtransactions for mostly free to play games. Kinda it is Valve fault but in some ways, it is S397 fault for using it.

Yeah, it is rubbish.

I just have to add my opinion to this discussion. There seems to be a lot of anguish when it comes to prices for the S397 DLC. This Radical costs slightly more than one, as my friend calls it, foo-foo she-she drink at Starbucks. For me at least, I've spent more on content in R3E than what I have spent for rF2. I thought I also read some complaints about left or right-hand drive. I have both in my Radical.

Yo! To anyone who has bought this new XX version, how is it? How does it compare to the earlier free SR3? The original SR3 is great! So I'm considering getting this aswell, seems it's e en lighter that the original. Looks great! Thanks for any replies!

It's the same settings I use for racing. You can notice that for example shadows are rather pixelated and not at their best. It's not even downsampled, which is a pretty standard practice for making screenshots. I run the game at 1920x1200 and 60 fps. I could run it at higher framerate, but probably wouldn't consistently reach 120 fps, so I don't bother. I probably could run it at 1440p very close to 60 fps.

But as always, it's with my ReShade. It's not a dramatic difference without it, though, it just warms up the colors a bit and slightly adjusts contrast/gamma/exposure.

Hey Martin,

Apart from ReShade, isn't there any new post processing filter for rFactor 2 similar to Custom Shaders Patch, Sol, or the newest Horizon Shades for AC?

It's a shame these great filters for AC are not made too for rFactor 2... they would make the Sim
look so much better and more realistic.
