RDRC S9 Round 2 - Rally Sweden (15th February - 21st February 2021)

I have done the middle part of the rally before work today, and this loop of stages went a lot better than the first one. On the first stage I was the fastest Escort (of those with recorded time) by 6 seconds. I dropped 0,2 seconds on the second stage, but in the darkness I just cannot se the road and dropped 14 seconds to the fastest Escort on that one.

Looking forward to the final loop of stages, I hope I will be clawing my way back into the points with this effort :)

I truly hate the bumpy nature they designed in Sweden. Sure it can be bumpy, but at times it feel more like Argentina(or that my car have no suspension whatsoever).

If I make it in the points I'll be delighted. Not a fan of this rally. Which is a bit ironic I guess :p

Hello guys! This is my absolute debut in a Dirt championship and also in a championship of the RD community which I have been a member for some years.

After some time in sim racing I dusted the old G27 and went to Sweden with the Ford Fiesta R2.

Well, service A done. It didn't go as I intended because at the end of SS1 I had a rollover on one of those 3 right on the last split. Fortunately I did not have any mechanical damage to the car, although in terms of bodywork the car was badly treated.
I hope that in the rest of the rally things will go better so I can take some pictures with the paint intact.

I wish you all a good rally

Got distracted in SS2 and hit a snowbank hard enough to get a puncture

have to admit I'm very confused about what happened to me on SS8. I'm not sure if there was a technical issue if it was just a mistake from me but I just didn't seem to turn at a corner and rolled into a house

Sounds like @Joakim Skalstad didn't warn the upcoming J-RDRC drivers about puncture-related snowbanks on SS2 then! :p

Hmmm, the first downhill section?
I noticed the opposite, that I could make the corners by turning a lot less, the car would get helped by the ruts in the road.
Maybe I give Codemasters too much credit, but when the ruts works that way, I can imagine if you enter the corner from the outside of the ruts, there might be a lot less grip - just like IRL.
That can explain it.

When I was reviewing my recordings to find some screen shots, I found that the stills don't really do this rally justice. The video of the car dancing over the bumps in the road and reacting to the crests and dips is pretty magical, at least to me.

I know. I feel the stills doesn't do the game any justice no matter what country you are in. Actually, compared to DR1, I feel the replay camera views worse as well. They just looked more real and cool in DR1. At least they have added trackside cameras along the whole stage for DR2 :)

End of the rally going live, enjoy!

And it's done. A clean run with only a 360 spin on SS10 was enough to bring the car home. Being a bit in no man's land can feel strange, but I tried to at least challenge myself to reduce the gap to the 3 drivers ahead as much as possible. Again, keeping it (mostly) clean payed dividends :) Let's see the times of those who have yet to run, but for now there are points for grabs!... Lol.

Looking forward to reading the reports of the top guys and all the other who are on their way!

Oh confidence you cruel mistress...

I managed to complete the 2 first days without any major events, even taking 5th place to my surprise. What more, my first ever green sector on stage 11. So what usually happens after such a high? Big low of course, terminal damage before the next split with 2 punctures leading to a big roll after. DNF it is then. And to think I actually decided to take things slow since I was a minute in front of 6th place anyway...

But man the high felt great :D Thanks again to the organizers, such an amazing event. And congrats to all the finishers!

Just finished the rally tonight. Yep, I FINISHED the rally! That alone is progress from Monte Carlo.:D

It wasn't easy, as I arrived in Sweden ridiculously unpreparded due to a few really busy RL weeks.
Still, according to Steam I already have a whopping 34 hours in this game after just two rounds of RDRC:confused: (but one night I forgot to turn off my PC so the game kept running overnight..)

I did thoroughly read the magazine -once again a quality masterpiece!- and tried to take all the tips inside it to heart. Tried... and failed for the most part.

Also, everything is white here obviously, and the roads are rather bumpy. So at these high speeds, trees snowbanks corners and other objects were bouncing and flying over my screens so fast that my brain just couldn't process it all in real-time, and combined with translating and understanding the pace notes I had to stay so super-focused that I didnt even dare to blink.
So at the end of every stage all this info made my eyes bleed..it is just too much white.

Turning down the Brightness in-game made it slightly better, but at certain sections I just had to back off a little for my brain to keep up with my car. Must be an age thing..

First night, I did the first 5 stages. They actually went quite well albeit slow, but without crashes or punctures.

Second night, I tried to take on the middle 3 stages. On the very first section of SS6, the front of my car ate a snowbank and did a double barrel roll.. Unbelievably, only cosmetic damage. Second timed section of that same stage, a similar thing happened, but only a single barrel roll this time. Slightly more damage, but still no punctures. Pheew..lucky me. But seriously freaked out by now, I almost crawled through the rest of the stages, losing quite some time but no more accidents.

Tonight, the last 50 kms.
SS9, Hamra, I just can't go fast there without crashing, so lost quite some time there. SS10 went fine without incidents, but early on in SS11 I ended up on top of a snowbank, hitting a tree and.. Rear puncture. Still a long way to go so I ate the 1 min. penalty and continued. Managed to finish without further incidents, For now in 18th overall but almost 3 min behind my teammate. Not great..:(

Still, I made it into the provisional Top-10 of ppl driving without assists:laugh:. Although that won't last either.:roflmao:

I better get all my gear on the boat to South America now. I have only ever driven one short stage there but from the looks of things it promises to be ehh.. interesting.

Thanks to everyone sharing their beautiful screenshots and streamed runs!:inlove:
I like watching those. Some of you make this look really easy..
Time permitting I should really learn how to make a skin and pretty screenshots. Maybe for next rally.

Once more, big thanks to @Ole Marius Myrvold and everyone else involved in making this happen! CYA in Argentina

I'm surely late by now, but in those situations it's better to not do anything when retry fails, but keep the game running as long as needed. Keep retrying periodically (but not hammering) until it goes forward, as going back to main menu will/can fail to post your time and leave you out of a competition. Then when you're in a safe place to exit to main menu for resuming later (as in a service station), do it if the racenet connection isn't ok for the moment.

On career events (at least on community events) each failed "retry" can trigger a funny bug that will cause the distance driven to keep adding to the car, unlocking engine upgrades very quick. Not sure if already patched.

A small heads up for rdrc-3 runners, there's a daily event with H3s on Argentina today (w/ a "long" stage).
