As a guide what would be an acceptable laptime around Silverstone with the RSR F3?

Race pace is in the 2:00min region, however once the track rubbers in people will be in the 59's and even 58's.

I'll stick with my number choice anyhow I think I liked 33 in RDTCC S9.

Yes, double digit is advisable, but I thought i'd open it up a little more. Obviously it's your responsibility to ensure that the number fits on the car so that it's clearly visible.

Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what I'd need to get started with this?
(free software would be best as I'm pretty skint after Xmas...)

If you can handle the 4am start then you will be fine. I'm in the Detroit area and race with them all the time. Biggest thing is how stable your connection is. My ping to their servers are in the 240 range and have had no problem with the races.

also the pedals I'm using don't have a clutch axis (Logitech dfgt) so would I be able to use automatic clutch or will I have to compete without a clutch?

Not sure I understand you mate, there's only 1 car that needs to be used: Formula 3
