Fulvio wraps up Q2 Championship with another win.

Fulvio Fenix (Red Bull Campos RSS) finished off the quarter 2 championship with win number 5 out of 6 at the Silverstone circuit on Thursday. With a smaller than usual grid, Fulvio still had some work to do with several very fast drivers looking to try to upset the champions winning run.

Qualifying
Tyre choice was going to be crucial for the race as most of the drivers did fast times in free practice on the hard option. Thomas Kimmich went out early on hards and put in a very respectable 45.097.

The Spanish GP winner Laurent Londes went ever so slightly quicker with his best effort with a 45.090 on the hard compound and Q1 champion Allard van den Hoeven went 0.02s quicker on mediums.

But as qualifying was coming to a close, Thomas pitted for a new set of mediums and immediately put his car on pole position with a time of 44.743. Champion Fulvio elected to start from the back of the grid as Andre Murel was putting in some good times to take 5th spot, returnee Dai Feng had some pace to qualify 6th with Paul in 7th.

Race
At the start Thomas got a good launch and led the field through the Abbey, Farm and Village complex.

Allard on medium tyres, got a good drive out of the Loop corner and got a run on Thomas down the Wellington straight. As Thomas braked for Brooklands, Allard tapped the rear of Thomas’s car but positions were maintained.

Fulvio was already up to 6th place and had the fast improving Andre up ahead. Andre was not going to make life easy for the Q2 champion though and ‘explored’ track limits several times , even getting airborne at one point, in an effort to keep Fulvio behind, which he did for a remarkable four laps.

Finally, Fulvio got alongside as they crossed the finish line on lap 5, touching wheels at one point. Fulvio had the inside line for Abbey and went ahead, Andre went wide and onto the grass which allowed Dai Feng through and up to P6.

Back at the front, Thomas had opened up a gap of 1.0s over Allard with Laurent 2.0s back. Hank Belane seemed to be struggling for pace in P4 and was in the sights of a fast incoming Fulvio.

Hank went wide at Becketts allowing Fulvio to close and get a run down the Hanger straight and into Vale. Hank managed to hang on for half a lap but Fulvio just had too much speed for Hank on the Wellington straight and got the job done under braking for Brooklands.

With 15 minutes gone, the leaders were in the same starting order but that was about to change as Allard took a bit to much kerb at Maggots and got his Formula Velocity sideways for Becketts, then running over the grass, allowing Laurent up to P2.

With Fulvio closing in, Allard was the first to pit as his medium tyres overheated with the slide and changed onto the hard option but had lost a lot of time. Allard retired 4 laps later when he came to a halt on the Hanger straight while in P7.

Andre was having a strong drive in P5 while Fulvio pitted on lap 17, stopping for 5 seconds and coming out behind Andre.

A lap later Laurent was the next of the leaders to pit taking slightly longer than Fulvio’s stop. Race leader Thomas was the next to stop one lap later and took on a new set of hards but came out just behind Hank.

Fulvio was now on the gearbox of Laurent after some blistering pace through the Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel corners. Half a lap later Fulvio drove past Laurent on the Wellington straight and braking into Brooklands. 6 seconds up the road Thomas was hanging onto Hank who was still to pit so it looked like it would be left to Thomas to try to keep Fulvio off the top spot.

Hank pitted on lap 22 handing the lead back Thomas but Fulvio was only 2.5s behind.

Back in P5, Andre had pitted and got out ahead of Paul. Andre must have literally been putting the pedal to the metal as he suffered cramp in his foot, his car got on the grass on the entry to the superfast Stowe corner and stuffed his car into the barriers, retiring from the race.

With 11 minutes to go, Thomas was frantically hanging onto the lead with Fulvio all over him and as they went down the Hanger straight, Fulvio went one side, Thomas moved to the right to block Fulvio but Fulvio amazingly drove around the outside of Stowe corner to take the lead.

Thomas bravely tried to get back on terms but Fulvio managed to hang onto the lead and took the flag 3.2s ahead of Thomas. Laurent took the final podium step some 14 seconds back with Hank further 14s back in P4. Paul recovered from two pit stops to finish P5 with Dai hanging on to take P6.

This result meant that Laurent secured P2 in the championship and Hank took third spot.

So congrats to all the drivers who took part but especially to Fulvio for the stunning pace and fastest laps over this quarter. It will interesting to see if anyone can get on terms with the Flying Fenix in Q3.

Don't forget to register for Q3, we have some great tracks coming up including Spa and Monza with the streets of Baku and the banking of Zandvoort to come as well.

Also, if anyone was having trouble seeing all the skins of other drivers, try this;
If you cannot see other driver skins, delete the RSS car mod from your AC root folder (including all skins), reinstall the RSS car then download the skin pack. Then re-register for the championship, selecting your preferred skins.
See you at Okayama on the 18th but in the meantime, if you want some multi class action at Silverstone, sign up for this;

I though I had to just reinstall the skins, maybe that's why I still struggle with my all white car. Will do this for next race!
