Guys, do not get too hung up on lap times. A lap set in practice or qualy means nothing when the race starts. It's consistency that wins races, not speed. Stick to your limits rather than trying to go as fast as the aliens, otherwise you risk ending your race buried in a wall.

Well said,

Most simracers appreciate good track behaviour over lap times. Consistent simracers will pace at an 2:00,xxx average here. Going from 1;59's to 2:01's during the race. Quick BMW drivers may hit a high 1:57 on a perfect lap during qualify. My fastest time ever with a 407 is a 1:58,7. My last qualify time two days ago on this track was a 1:59,3 with 20l and some minor mistakes.

Most starting racers will go for the fastest car available top speed wise and fail to see the importance of stability. (Wing is your friend) Top speed in the race series comes at a prize when looking at the physics of the cars, the rear end appears to be less stable due to the position of the centre of gravity. (this is actually a feature that the aliens appreciate but it takes some time the master the skill of catching your rear when driving on the edge).

Top speed wise the BMW 320si E90 Seq and Volvo S60 are the fastest cars on track. The Peugeot 407 is on of the most stable but it's performance specifications are less favourable compared to the other models and this results in a lower than average top speed. I drive it anyway because I like it's stability = consistency over a race stint and some other goodies it brings. Between aliens in Honda's BMW's and Cruze's it's not a winning car but it will bring you home with a good result.

Getting experience driving fast among others is the key to win races and to prevent disaster. Overtaking by out-braking into your opponents racing line wile entering a corner when you are half a car length behind, ends up in tears 90% of the attempts. Using your opponent as a wall in the process is simply not done. This kind of action happened to me about three times last race and costed me quite some positions as I was punted of track every time in the process. (When I feel a out braking manoeuvre is imminent behind I will always brake on my mark and try to pull a "fly-bye" hoping he will overshoot but for some kamikaze out there that simply won't work. They will deliver their deadly payload like a heat seeking missile counting on your hospitality while being a moving wall...)
Brake on fixed marks you feel comfortable with and try to corner smoothly, slow in and fast out. Your are more likely to gain a position fast out of a corner overtaking via your opponents slipstream on a straight, claiming your position when getting along side, braking into the next corner. Success rate 90%. and with mutual respect for each-others position on track it can be done without contact and people flying of track. If you don't think you can make it don't try it...
Give each other some room and only change your line once to defend the next corner. Know when you've lost a battle. Settle down behind and find "his" weak spot next lap or try to trick him into a mistake instead of dive bombing your opponent at the next available opportunity.., game on!

Happy racing from an average racer in a underdog car. :)

If best drivers have time 1.58, and I have in race 2.00.5..., then stability don't help, two seconds is too much, and who is fast and have stability, wins, not only stability helps
If that 1:58 driver puts his car in a wall because he's pushing too hard on worn out tyres then the 2:00 driver will finish ahead of him. As Michael has explained perfectly above, the majority of people cannot perform qualifying laps for 25 minutes straight without either the car failing or the driver failing.

decided to go out on slicks at the end of qualy and found that I was 2-2.5 seconds faster!, but unfortunately spun off in the final sector, which didn't leave me enough time for another lap.
the session was spectacularly close though, congratulations everybody :)
lined up on the grid, only to have my connection drop out for a split second, and by the time I got back, it was too late :(
hope you guys had fun though, going by the looks of qualy, it was going to be a cracker of a race. ::)
so disappointed that I missed out, but next time I'll be there for sure!

Lasted about half an hour - picked up a knee injury playing football this afternoon and it was causing me too much pain to continue.

Was really pleased with my quali and early laps as it was a very competitive server tonight. Was only about 12th-13th fastest in the dry in practice, but on the damp track in quali I managed to grab 6th in an absolutely thrilling session!

Started off well, had a good fight with Jonas for 3rd but gradually began to lose concentration as my leg began to hurt more. Made a couple of mistakes and dropped to 10th, had a good scrap with Bob and in the end pitted early to give my leg a short break but it wasn't enough help!

Wasn't impressed with the driving of Alfred Bono who was very rough and overly-aggressive. And for the second race in a row on RD he is a driver not signed up...hopefully not the same guy from Wednesday's STCC race, if so we really need a change of password...

I dont know what happened, there was a few laps to go and the game puts me last and all the cars disappear! I kept going until time ended but nothing happened. :( Stupid game. Had the win wrapped up, oh well. Oh and sorry to Robert for the hit on 1st lap, but you were lagging badly. Im sure it was probably the game, it acted very weird today.

The qualy was the most exciting part this time, with a drying track the times dropped all the time. I was lucky to secure 2nd because on practice pace it looked as if I was further back.

The first laps were like a copy of the last ATCC race: I won the start against Joao, he made his pass quickly, and then I pulled away slightly and steadily. Behind me was a guy whose name I forgot and who I have never heard before. But he was fast, passed me! Tried to make an early stop, to catch that guy again, but he dropped out when I was on my outlap.
So I was behind Joao, and Jonas was behind me. He had fresher tyres and seemed faster than me, but he disconnected. Then also Joao had huge lags and was out. So I was leading! Had a good gap to Bob, but he seems to be very good on worn tyres. He closed over half a second each lap. But it wasn't enough for him, I won with ca. 2,5 seconds. :) Maybe not the most deserved win, but I keep my 100% win rate on Mini Fridays.

Hope some day we can have shorter races again ;)
