Just curious ... How many of us run advance tests against the AI? I know, they stink .... but ...

I always try to run at least 1 full race against the AI. For a couple of main reasons.

The first is to practice starts. I select a number of AI drivers that don't cause too much frame-rate drag and try to set them to run just a hair slower than I do. Then I start at the back of the grid. This way I can practice how to approach the first couple of turns on the start and gauge how best to try to move up the grid and not cause an accident. Since the AI aren't that good, it really turns out to be a good learning tool as all hell usually happens online and trying to not hit the stupid AI is good practice for not hitting the real drivers during the event.

I also do this to judge my race setup for the long haul and the car's handling after the mandatory pit stop. It's also a good tool for gauging "clean" passing maneuvers. Again, it is actually helpful that the AI aren't that good. One has to do some unexpected reactions to avoid the crazy AI. This helps point out the bad and good of the car setup when having to do unexpected braking or moves off the racing line to avoid them.

Since we don't get to do as many starts as we do laps, it really isn't a bad way to get some practice starts under one's belt before heading out for the "real" thing.

Just a thought....

On the subject or the TDI, I did quite a few public races when race on first came out and I didn't see that the tdi had any advantage. IE it did not seem to be winning anymore that any other car. I personally can't get it stopped, which causes a lot of problems if you know what I mean.
