The GT Legends Workshop team have released a substantial update to the legendary Power & Glory mod for GTR2.

Following a break of several years, a now considerably reduced GTLW team have been hard at work further refining and improving on this classic release, introducing a number of fixes to long standing issues and heavily improved physics to the Ford GT40 and Porsche 906 cars in game.

New users can directly install version 3.2 from scratch (assuming a vanilla install of GTR2 is installed) or updating from the previous version can be achieved via an updater.

Nope, exact same error running the installer as admin "unable to open file c:/...CONFIG.INI"

Edit: this was a clean install of gtr2 on steam and using the mega links for p'n'g installer, OS is win 10 pro x64

Install problems with missing CONFIG.INI

Hi everybody :) I'm known as aSa and I'm the one responsible for all the install problems PnG has :).

I had to make an account here (at least temporary) to get this CONFIG.INI "madness" done with somehow. I'm not sure yet why this happens and I'm here to find that out.

For starters:
  1. You all use Steam GTR2 ?
  2. Do you launch GTR2 *ONLY* from Steam (with default settings i.e. with Admin rights) ?
  3. What OS you have ? W7, W8, W10? 32/64-bit?
  4. Have you removed (or even tried to remove) the UAC control? UAC is the thing that keeps popping up those rights elevation requests and some find them overly annoying.
  5. When you installed your OS, did you make your Documents folders private (so, that other users can't see or access them) ?
  6. Anything you could think of that differs from the great masses ?
When I know why this happens, and when, I can fix the installer to take care of that problem. Thank You.

cheers.. aSa C[_]

1. Steam
2. Yes standard steam launch
3. Win 10 x64 pro
4. UAC is on not tried turning off yet
5. Standard install of the documents folder
6. Brand spanking windows install with nothing but drivers, steam, rf2 and gtr2

I fixed the config ini madness by simply copying the config.ini file from the installed GTR2 folder to the my documents/GTR2 folder. In case you need a quick fix:

(So quickest way for the installer to fix that would be to do the same?)

I am using Win10 and had the same issue with a non-steam GTR2 (the direct download version) as well as the steam version.

Thank You for your info, Bez and Paul. Much appreciated.

And MoerasGrizzly, I've been studying the effects of that "cheap fix" too. I know now the installer fails miserably handling this "Steam-use only" related problem, but I didn't want to take brave steps any more without an in-depth view of what else is happening :) The missing CONFIG.INI is just a sign of other (minor) problems that also needs to be taken care of until I'm happy with the installer. Please report if you notice any problems.

Btw MoerasGrizzly, what direct download version you're referring to? It also launches GTR2 with admin powers? O tempora, o mores..

cheers.. aSa C[_]

4. UAC is on not tried turning off yet

I have Installed it on win10 x64 with no problems too, download the full install, turn off UAC, install as admin, installtion type #1 (copy file from gtr2 folder without overwriting them) if still not working try compatibility mode for win7.

Hi, first of all thanks for the awesome mod, I remember playing it back in the day and decided to take the opportunity and relive the experience. Sadly the installer is not working for me. Maybe I can ask for some help.

I've downloaded the complete package form the mediafile links, I've checked all files with the additional app and all is OK. Running Windows 7 64bit, when I click on the PnGv3.2_installer.exe it doesn't do anything it just stalls (tried running as administrator as well). It starts three identical processes called "PnGv3.2_installer.exe *32" and I can't even end the process or the process tree.
... and that's as far as it goes :)
