I'm properly pissed off.
I detest this car in AC, and started off detesting this version too. However, I managed to find a balance with it and was able to get my head around the way it slips at the front and back. Tried it with light fuel, heavy fuel etc... all good.
Qualy - Pole - did a 2:21.7 pb on the one clean lap I managed and was chuffed to bits, especially as there were some fast guys about.
Race - clean start and managed to keep @Dennis Manke behind hoping that he'd fall back into the clutches of the following pack and be more worried about staying in front of them, rather than worry about being in front of me!
Everything was going great, car was reacting as I expected and I had reasonable, consistent pace - then after 5 laps or so, completely out of the blue, the front end started gripping really well completely throwing off the balance of the car. Every corner became an instant massive oversteer as the front turned on rails and the back end carried on in the previous direction. Ended up with a massive wall hit and the car was doomed.
I'm at a loss as to why this happened, usually when these get lighter on fuel, they understeer more as the front mounted tank empties, the tyres stayed the same temps as the previous laps, way too early for wear to make such a big difference, my style stayed the same.
So after a while of trying to work it out - I came back out but with half the fuel load. Straight back into low 2.22s and even matched my qualy time in the 21s. Then, exactly the same, after 5 or 6 laps, the front end started gripping hard, but I was ready for it and I could prove that it was more grip rather than the rears having less as I could suddenly almost go through Eau Rouge flat without the front washing out, and Pouhon, Stavelot and Blanchimont were way faster, but now the car was really compromised for overall balance. I'm still confused, I still don't get it - like a switch was thrown. @Celtic Pharaoh - you know these cars pretty well, any ideas?
Anyway - the car had slowly crept up in my estimation from really ****, to just **** - and after taking a dump in my mouth during this race, it's now down to ****ing ****.
I'll not bother driving it again. Life is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too short.
Thanks for hosting @Daniel Monteiro
