Well done to all the finishers
I had never driven on this track before tonight, although I have had alot of practice in these cars, the track was something very new for me.
Practice:
In the practice I found myself learning the track, Of course it was not hard to learn the 1st 2 turns, then a very very very very long straight and then some more corners. The problem I found learning this track was that I would forget everything at the end of the lap as the straight was soooo very very long, hahahaha, so by the end of the practice session I felt quite good. Pfff this proved to NOT be the case, I will explain....
Quali:
In the quali session I got provisional pole by about 0.024 of a second lol hehehehe, then after some more laps and with only 8 mins left of the session, and with only 1 lap of fuel on board (only enough fuel and time for me to do one more flying lap) I went for it, pretty confident that I knew where I was going now (pffff, still not the case lol, keep reading and I will explain in the race section of my thread lol
) I started my last flying lap, got some good turns under my belt and at the end of the lap, I thought maybe I was gonna be held up but (I think it was Wido) he very very kindly let me through on the left side just before the last 2 chicanes :0 Thanks mate
I somehow managed to go nearly 2 secs quicker than my previous best??? Dont ask how, I think it was a freak lap where everything just seemed to work for me lol
24H Race:
Well this is where my real lack of knowledge for the track really started to shine through lol, it is one thing driving practice laps and quali laps on my own, but driving laps offline battling with other people is an entirley different story
I got what seemed to be a good start staying infront of others behind me, then I came under attack at T1, I broke oh soooooo late forgetting I had all this fuel on board and cold tires
I managed to keep it just on the track, dropping back to 2nd, then more mistakes from me saw me dropping back even further.
I have to say sorry to a couple of people, It was me who stuffed it at T1 a few laps after the start and it caused a mini pile up between a few of you guys Sorry again for this.
All of these mistakes from me just made me realsise I had forgotten where my braking points were, and at some points where the track was going, My memory sucks a little bit lol. Once I settled down a little bit, I found Eck napping and got passed him due top a mistake on his part, then (cant remember your name) someone else went off at a laft hander allowing me to get passed back into 2nd position.
I really settled down by now and I started to catch the leader, who by this point was 10 secs in front
Over the next 2-3 laps before the 1st round of pitstops I caought up about 4 secs and was quite confident that now we had a race on our hands
Then when I came in for my 1st pitstop I couldnt press my pit speed limiter so I stayed at 50MPH not knowing weather on not I could go faster or if i was speeding into the pits
I came out of the pits and it started really to get very very dark.
Eck went passed me just as I exited and so I followed him to see where to go next. I was actually very very lost out there in the dark, then I tried to make a pass on ck, getting side by side with him... (at this point I was a little scred, it is one thing following a car in front, but as soon as I got clear track infront I started to panice and could not see a bloody thing lol, wgho knows what would have happened in the dark.
...This is when my computer/game froze on me (and that is quite funny you thought I may havfe switched my lights off hahaha lol that would have been suicidal
)
Again well done to all the finishers, and grats to the podium finishers, I cant wait for some more races at RD. Great atmosphere last night on TS.
One more thing, thanks to Rob for letting me use his setup, very kind of you mate.
And thanks to the RD staff for making this event possible, just a shame I could not finish the damn race
See you all again soon
Mark (Rue Morg on track!!)
