PC Upgrading Discussion

Ohhh I am buying more stuff today. Have loads of links already opened. Question for PSU, the Corsair 650w is SLI compartible, whats gonna happen if I take the CrossFire route in the future? Will the PSU be compartible with CrossFire?

As for the Mobo, Processor and Graphics Card, I'll wait until I have all the other bits and bobs. Maybe prices will plummet for these 3 items.

Here is anudda PSU.
Its 620w only though: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/134695 Thoughts?
OCZ ProXStream 1000W PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124740 Thoughts?

Regards

Abdul

Yes it will work fine on crossfire. What graphics card are you getting?

Thanks Oliver for your quick reply. Still undecided between the two versions.

The Mobo is what will surely decide this battle. I am leaning towards ATI at the moment. But then I just saw this yesterday http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152386

Its the 216 core version for £215. Thats not a bad price at all.

Maybe this will assure me guys, For Triple screen setup, I only need 1 graphics card right? SLI or Crossfire wont work in triple screen atleast from the research I have done. Correct me if I am wrong m8.

Edited to add:

Found this awesome bundle. Will save around 20 quid.

Intel Core 2 Quad LGA775 Q6600 2.40GHz Retail / Asus P5Q / 2GB Corsair PC2-6400C4 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit - Bundle

Abdul i think as for matrox triple head2go You just need one card. But if You buy ATI card You will be able to run highest res. of 3x1440x900 and with Nvidia card You can use 3x1600x1050
http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/compatibility/gxm/ -You can check it here

I just recently went from nvidia card -8800gts to ati 4870x2(was considering gtx280 but its less powerfull than 4870x2)..and its a great card but now i started to think about triple screen setup (matrox) and for that it would be better to have nvidia card.If You have choice between gtx260 and single 4870 i would go for nvidia as its works better with GTRevo too...

On beggining of new year nvidia will lunched gtx295 and i think gtx285 but probably prices will be high for those cards.

Damian that Asus board aint bad at all. But I get a free sound card LOL.

Next purchase after the board is processor. And now that I'll be on the SLI wagon, will be keeping an eye on that GTX260 when price drops. 280 is too expensive.

Made a decision today to purchase the board below. SLI enabled. Rob a bank and buy 3 GTX280.

Price range isnt bad, just checked a review of the board and its rated highly.

LOL ... I was in Scan the other day and saw their 3 x way SLI GTX 280 system all watercooled and basically the mutts chutts ... price somewhere in the region of 11000 pounds!!!!!!!
Silly money ... but someone will buy it :p

theres lots of them about.abdul, the prices i notice where somewhat lower a few months back when i got mine but the current rates of exchange for eu vs us are not helping witht he prices atm.

depending on how long you would like your comp to last without further upgrades it might be worth looking a dual core processors. most will give you higher clock speeds for the same money and therefore better performance for gaming. there will be games that start comming through that do support mutlithreading on 4 cores but most use 2 so you only really need the extra 2 if like my computer your system is running several other apps and processes in the background while you play games.

it depends on which way you do it, if you want triplehead wih hardware you will need a Matrox Triple head 2 go (http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/th2go/) which you can run from either 1 gfx card or 2 in an sli/crossfire configuration.

If you want to run triple head thru software you will ned SoftTH (http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/) and 2 graphics cards. One high power one for rednering the who three screens and a secondary less powerfull one as a frame buffer for one of the screens. the second card doesnt need to be huge a bog standard 8 series 30 or 40 quid job will easily take care of it.

Stumbled on a problem. The front case fan is blocking the harddrive from fully getting fixed. It does lock but the backside of the HDD is almost 1/3 out. Problem?

Dave there is a few quid difference between dual core and quad core q6600. I might aswell just get the quad core unless I get a really good price on a dual core which will be great for gaming.

ok sometimes one pic tells more then thousand words :)

Doesn't matter if your hdd not fit in completely as long as your vga card isnt the huge one.
But for better air flow i use the sharkon noise blocker in the 5.25" hdd drive bays how you can see in picture.
