OtterHud - An R3E WebHUD

Introducing OtterHUD, a new and improved in-game HUD for use with R3E. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the default in-game HUD and I would recommend that everyone uses it, quite frankly. The list of features is excellent and it's getting good support from it's creator.

The easiest way to get OtterHUD working is to use Crew Chief's own WebHUD integration feature. You can find it as a tickbox in the Properties menu.

Once you've done that, you need to add the following line to your R3E launch options in Steam:
Code:
-webdev -webHudUrl=https://otterhud.github.io/

With that done, just start Crew Chief as normal, start R3E, and disable the regular in-game HUD. It's really no longer needed as OtterHUD is a direct replacement. The one exception is the track map, as it's the only feature OtterHUD does not have. Now jump into the cockpit of your favourite car, and enjoy! The HUD is fully customisable and resizable by clicking the cog icon which appears in the upper-left corner.

OtterHUD Release Thread

Well, you have two options:

- Go to the official OtterHUD thread on the S3 forums and ask Otter extremely nicely if he'll add a whole new tower widget to suit your needs.

- Or learn how to program a WebHUD yourself and create one. ;)

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, please tell me if its not.
I have been using OtterHud for a few days now and its been working fine. To start with i got the NullReferenceExcpetion error as have other people in the past, however a quick system restart soon solved this. However, after the patch i updated to yesterday from steam, the error has come back, even when using CrewChief. Screenshots of dash.exe and crewchief errors are shown below.

Any tips or ideas to get it working again? I have had it working fine before.
Thank you for your help.

Is there any way of moving and resizing things in VR?
If you're talking about the OtterHUD widgets, then yes. You can move any widget by simply dragging & dropping with the mouse. You can resize them using the sliders in the OtterHUD menu, and activate/deactivate each feature using the radio buttons.

If you're talking about the in-game HUD, you need to assign a key to "Move & Resize HUD Elements". Once in a car, press that key to move the HUD items. Left-click & drag moves, right-click & drag resizes.

I was after a way of moving otterhud elements in VR to make them less intrusive.
That's the first option then, they're all drag & drop so you can place them wherever you like. I tend to place them all along the bottom, as I find widgets hovering in the air when I driver open-cockpit cars to be immersion breaking. Click "Show all widgets" in the settings so that even hidden widgets show up, so that you can position them all. Don't forget to disable that mode afterwards though otherwise your HUD won't work properly.

Note that in my example below, the track map to the far left is part of the in-game HUD, not OtterHUD.

No, I did it in VR. R3E does mirror your VR view on your monitor though. Check the VR key bindings, and you'll find one that allows you to turn the monitor (mirror) view on and off. Bind it then press it to make sure it's active.

Are they limited I where they can be positioned by something? It seems like I can't move them beyond the edge of the monitor screen in vr so they're floating in my eye line and very small. I can't workout why this is.

They are limited in VR yes. You essentially have an invisible "window" in front of your where widgets can be placed, roughly equal to the size of your monitor. It's similar in most VR sims. I can't think of one right now that allows you total freedom in placing HUD items wherever you want in VR space.

Don't forget that you can move the HUD backwards to get it out of your face using in-game key bindings... the default position is much too close. It's a per-car setting, so what I usually do is move the HUD to about the level of the dashboard of the car I'm driving. For me this helps the HUD "blend" with the environment, decreasing the issues with immersion a HUD causes.

I remember seeing bindings for moving the HUD but, being a bit slow sometimes, didn't manage to associate it with being able to solve the issue  doh!

Just need to find the time to sort it before my 10 year old takes over the pc for a hour to play Among Us with his classmates
