My school runs an engineering club that focuses on designing, building and racing Electric Vehicles for a competition run at a local tertiary institute. Having worked on and driven our vehicles myself, I feel that we could soon see stuff like this worldwide. It's cheap, fun and envronmentally-friendly. The only thing missing is the sound - the loudest sound you'll get in these things is the whine of the electric motor.

Here's a recap video of our race. Look for cars 19, 22 and 57.

I am not necessarily talking about fossil-fuel generated electricity. The vehicles run in the challenge are powered by Sealed Lead Acid or Lithium Ion batteries, and thus produce no emissions. The focus of the race is endurance and efficiency, so we design our vehicles so that they use as little of that electricity as possible.

So I heard the first race of the year has been cancelled already because of the unrest over in the middle east. Just hope that doesn't happen in Montreal for any reason the younger brother and I have already bought tickets, booked flights and hotel rooms. I can't wait!!, this will be the first F1 race I have ever been too, I only started following the sport last year thanks to the little brother. Any one else been to a live race? If so where and how was it? We're already taking about Spain or England in 2012. He's team Mclaren, I'm kinda following team Ferrari but haven't made up my mind yet.

Hi,

We're looking at going to Croft this year for BTCC in June, pre-booking price (for Sunday only) is £24 + £7 for G/Stand, from what I remember there is only one small Grandstand between Clervaux and Hawthorn. Is it worth paying the extra £7?

Regards

Craig

Croft offers some pretty good areas to watch from. I dont like been in grandstands as you feel obliged to stay there all day as you paid for a seat.

Save yourself £7 and walk about the circuit, see the action from several areas.

:)

Croft is my local track, Been going ever since I can remember and I've never sat in the Grandstand, Apart from once when a rally event was on and you didn't have to pay to use it.

I know we have always enjoyed moving around the circuit throughout the day, As the other poster has pointed out, You get good views no matter where you go and the cars are in view for a while.
You normally expect alot of action to happen into that first corner but it often doesn't.

If you want to know what it looks like from the Grandstand have a look at the video a few months ago while in the Grandstand (Note I was standing at the time) Not sure what it would be like on a busy BTCC meeting if you would have to sit down for the races.

Maybe you could experience the grandstand once and then judge for yourself, So next time you know what to do.
But most of all Enjoy Croft, It's a lovely circuit - Getting out is a bit tricky though.

How can you say that so confidently???

Because I was there, maybe?
Can you explain your saying with some genuine reasons????

The fact that my school had cars on the grid was enough. Seeing the grid form up on the formation lap, I felt just as excited as I felt when I was watching the V8 Supercars for the first time at Barbagallo Raceway. There were so many different cars and so many ways in which teams had experimented with bodywork and motors that you always had something to look at... something to observe and take away for next year. The lack of deafening engines meant I could really feel the tension, not just from within my own team but from all the rest of the teams and spectators. Everyone went near-silent when they rounded the last corner. The lack of sound was certainly noticeable, but it didn't feel as if the thunderous roar was needed. And when it came for my turn to drive car 57, I was practically shaking from anticipation and nervousness.

Two new aces are added to the FIA GT1 line up for this season.

David Brabham has been confirmed as a member of the Sumo Power GT squad for their two-car assault on this year's championship. Brabham will partner Jamie Campbell-Walter with fellow GT1 regulars Ricardo Zonta and Enrique Bernoldi in the sister car.

Secondly Markus Winkelhock, a former DTM and Formula One driver, will be at the wheel of an All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport Lamborghini in 2011.
