Reiza Studios Physics Designer Niels Heusinkveld has released another of his informative physics videos, this time trying his hand at a live stream for the first time as he focuses on developing the formidable Formula Extreme in Automobilista.

Coming in a whopping three hours and 19 minutes, Niels has produced a nice and entertaining stream as he takes out the newly rebuilt Formula Extreme around the Interlargos Grand Prix circuit. As has become standard practice for videos released by Niels, the latest stream takes viewers inside the Automobilista title as Heusinkveld delves into the world of physics and setup creation for one of the more brutal vehicles found in AMS.

Niels Heusinkveld - Formula Extreme at Interlagos Live Stream Replay:
Probably not to all viewers tastes, as quite often the content within the video gets a little technical, it is never-the-less always entertaining to see what goes on behind the scene when creating content for a sim racing title. As Niels explains during the video, it appears that AMS gamers will be having a newly rebuilt Formula Extreme to play with in the near future, as development of the class has progressed significantly recently and, judging from the video, appears pretty close to completion.

I think he's also doing a measure of adjustment by feel. Given the fact that there's no real car its actually based on then its really not a case of just plugging in some numbers and getting the absolutely correct behavior. If there's no real car then why not simply engineer the car this way to a degree as well?

It's a shame that the AI use simplified physics otherwise you could just use them to do your test driving for you and then just fine tune it to suit your own style.

Disagree. Even if the AI used the same physics, they don't drive the same way you do.

On the other hand, you can already use them to configure aerodynamics and gearing. It's just spring rate and shocks and tire pressures that you won't find any benefit from.

When the AI controls the player's car, I believe full (higher frequency / detail perhaps) physics is used?

(If) So you can use "player car AI" to test / compare your setups in my experience.

As mentioned the AI don't drive like humans very well, so you wouldn't want to tune your setup for AI driving style.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
