Welcome to the RD Racing Club.

Some of you who have participated in last weeks race with the Radical car requested me use the same track (Silver City Raceway) for the multiclass. So here it is!

This track was chosen by supporters of the modder in a poll out of three different early versions of fictional circuits. The winner of this poll was then taken to completion and has become a fully-fledged finished racetrack. One of the voters came up with the brilliant idea to make this track a historic circuit as the flow and characteristics that suit that sort of vibe. Say goodbye to safety barriers and hello to fence posts and hay bales! The Silver City 66 track is set in the 'Boston Hill Open Space' area of Silver City, New Mexico.

Especially the new and inexperienced drivers are recommended to participate. There are a lot of learning opportunities but without the intensity and stress of the GT3/4 cars or the endurance multiclass cars. It's also good step up for those kind of events.

For those that requested this track for our series: BIG THANK YOU!

Great track, I had so much fun in the few laps I've turned in.
A bit of everything and very well integrated, goes for quite a smooth ride.
Really looking forward to Wednesday!

See you on track!

Story time:
In the last weeks I've putting in some driving in DiRT Rally 2.0 and one of the things that felt quite different when comparing to Assetto Corsa was the info I was gaining through force feedback. I was able to get a much better feeling of both the pavement and the car handling.
Not only that I was actually able to control RWD cars, which has always been problematic for me.

So this afternoon I've decided to have a look into the AC Force Feedback settings and lo and behold it was a mess! It was too strong, so it was filtering out a ton of things, and worst of all the Slip Effect was set to 0% - not sure if this is the default but I had never even looked into these settings so I guess it's the case. After a few adjustments everything now feels much better and I have a better understanding of the car physics.
Story over, now let's go over the consequences.

With more laps under my belt this track has earned a spot as one of my favorites, without a shadow of a doubt.
But that understeer with the Abarth was really getting under my nerves, to the point I started using the handbrake on the sharper turns.

And then I've decided to give the Mazda a try...
With the experience I've gained in the last weeks, plus the new force feedback settings I am finally able to enjoy driving it and keep it (mostly) under control. The Slip Effect especially made a huge difference because now I can feel the wheels spinning before completely losing traction and react to it before spinning out of control.
And oh boy! It brought the fun to 200%!!!
I'm not faster in the Mazda, not yet at least, but allowing me to keep the speed higher through the corners makes me happy.
Don't get me wrong: I still prefer the FWD experience, but this track + car combo... I'm switching teams! :p

Oh and a warning: I hate the Mazda cockpit, could never find a camera position that felt good and would not have something obstructed, but after some experimentation I've settled with setting it on the hood. I'm still getting used to it so it might reduce slightly my situational awareness. Gave it a try with AI and it felt ok, but with humans it's always different.

TL;DR
  • For the rookies: don't be like me and check your Force Feedback settings, they make a HUUUGE difference.
  • I'm switching to the Mazda, and I'm still getting used to the new camera setting so my situational awareness this race may be lower than expected.

Do you want to share your ffb settings?

Do you want to share your ffb settings?

I'm using this at the moment:

I had lowered the FFB to 80 while in the Abarth but now I see it back to 100, maybe those settings are per car? Not sure.
These are probably not optimized, but simply adjusting a few slides up and down to my preference already made a big deal to me.

I've also used the Pedals app (default) to check the FFB range. It's the right-most bar. If it goes all the way to the top and becomes red then info is being filtered.

My wheel is a Logitech G923 by the way. Not really the best when it comes to FFB but hey, you have to start somewhere.

Yes you can save it for each car indiviually.

Just registered... seems you are the only Abarth Han @HF2000 ... ...from what I saw under the tab 'Entrants' at least, so far.

Sorry, but if you're using ContentManager saving in AC works only for the FFb strength. For the other things you have to change the settings for force feedback in Content Manager

I did it all through AC only and Content Manager does reflect my changes.
I did not change anything in this menu and it is showing me the same values as AC.

At least for me is working fine.
CM version: 0.8.2393.39063 (x86)

Hey RS242;
Glad to hear you're getting things dialed in. Yes, I also found that getting the FFB settings to where you are comfortable with the feel was key to boosting the fun factor for AC. I have a G920 myself and went through similar experience.

I ended up with the same slip effects (25%), but I reduced Road Effects to 5% because I wasn't crazy about all the chatter / vibrations in the wheel on high speed straights. I found these effects to be somewhat noisy and annoying.

In case you're interested, the settings I ended up with are:

Love the way the cars feel now. Yes, the G920 and 923 might be considered entry level, but I'm generally pretty happy with mine.

See you on the track!

Ok. That's nice and also strange why that didn't work for me. But it's OK now.

Thank you for sharing Dominic.
Funny we ended up going through the same process and with the same value for the Slip effect.
I don't really feel that much vibration on the straights, maybe it's the track.
I'll keep it in mind for future races.

Ok. That's nice and also strange why that didn't work for me. But it's OK now.

Could it be a CM version difference?
