Mercedes Team Members Held at Gunpoint in Brazil

How you get that ? I live in ukraine next to crimea what the russians just ceased , its same here too well unless ruassina gunships outside dont scare you ;)
Ahh ok, you said you were from the UK so I thought you are living there (had some friends living in UK for some time and none of them wanted to come back)

Unfortunately, my country is experiencing a serious crisis in several sectors of society. Violence is only a reflection of wrong policies and disregard of society in general.
But be clear to everyone around the world: These are the minority, do not represent the true Brazilian people, fighter, honest and hardworking. We suffer greatly from this violence, with the disloyalities and personal interests of our rulers. But we will find our way. We evolved a lot. We have much to evolve for sure. We are a people made of many races too. We have a wonderful and rich culture. Friends, we are not just soccer and carnival. We are a continental country, beautiful and diverse.
And with hope friends we will arrive at a time where we can live with more dignity and tranquility.

And whoever has the opportunity, come and meet us.

I could debate gun politics with you for hours and hours, with both logic and history, or statistics (in addition to the ones you cherry pick and call "data"). At the end of that debate, you would lose. :coffee: (65% of all Americans agree!! lol). Your political agenda aside, my point was not to argue about guns.
I don't know where that 65% number came from, but the most recent survey conducted by Gallup (which has served as the main source for related surveys over the past decade or two) shows that 51% of Americans favor tighter restrictions on owning and carrying guns. We have a legal system that, out of over 300 million people, elected Donald Trump as our president...the majority isn't always right (slavery, anyone?), so that's a rather weak argument to stand by for any cause (either for or against).

In any case, I agree with your opinion on the comments made against Brazil and its citizens in this thread.

Our dear friend and recently latin america turn expert Rob may say (in his 2 thousand words text) that "the alcohol prone government" is only one to blame for all bad happening down there, single-handedly committing all the robberies, rapes and kidnapping, yet... it's the people, those ordinary people with pale future in front of them, kids most probably, who took guns in their hands and do such a nonsense.
Does it matter if a crime there is dropped from 122% chances for being robbed to only 102% ?
Avoid unless you got a free ticket with all expenses covered. Actually... avoid that one too.

Born in the UK :)
How can one born in the UK end up living in Crimea/Ukraine !?? :O_o:

Guys, can you please stop messing with the favela ATM? These poor kids aren't exactly robbing your poor old grandmother right? Wise up and rent your own platoon of favela warriors, or ask BOPE if they can spare you a handful if you cough up some dollaz. But first, permanent security advisor.

Brazil and the majority of it's people are great.
However, for a Nation rich in resources not enough is shared, many citizens live at or below the poverty line and desperation often results in desperate measures.
When a group of apparently 'wealthy' tourists appear on the radar there are always those who decide to take action, not necessarily the average citizen but one never really knows......desperate people do desperate things.
As for corruption, it's a way of life in Latin American governments and their agencies, just as it is in F1.
Moral of the story: stay alert and hire your own security.

There's quite a few brazilians on this board, I'm surprised some of the comments here aren't moderated *hint*.

Brazil has been one of the poorest in the world for basically all its life. Crime is very very high. F1 is a passion to them, but it hasnt been the same since Senna. Senna gave them hope for some good times in a desperate situation that dosent seem to get better, so maybe its time to hand over the keys to the track to someone else, focus on national series and stop spending so much money?
With crime that high, I wouldn't venture out on the streets of Sao Paulo without an armed escort and armored car, or sleep in the paddock. Its like F1 never learns from this despite it happening so frequently. There actually a saying in the paddock; 'you havent been to Brazil properly before being held up at gunpoint'. Black humor sometimes eases a traumatic experience such as this.

F1 could come to Portugal,Portimao Circuit is awesome, but noooooo, football is better.....bunch of idiots in my country, they only like futeg...........y.

I'm going to take my comment back.
I know it isn't the people of Brazil fault why their country is in the state it is in, it's their corrupt leaders just like the ones in the UK. It was way below the belt, me saying a whole country of human beings have contributed nothing towards planet Earth, demonizing them for what someone else has done.
@Will Mazeo is right, if people don't make a change, change will not happen, also applies to the UK and all Countries.
