I assume you're right, those are basically the same settings in the flags on CM

The Mazda MX5 seems to be well suited for short tracks, such as Road Atlanta, Okayama, etc., but I agree with Andreas, it was a bit underwhelming @ Bahrain. That said, with more drivers it might've been a different experience.

What about the Formula Abarth/Tatuus for the longer tracks?

I agree. I just tried Road Atlanta for next weeks MX5/GT3 events and though I had a lot of fun with the MX5 going through the fast corners, the straights are quite boring. But also very educational because you get so punished with loosing time on the straight if you don't hit the apex.

I don't know the cars you propose but they are open cars, don't they?
It's certainly an option but I was looking for a closed car that fills in the gap between the Mazda and the GT3 cars. We're going to use the Audi TT Cup tonight in the reverse grid test on purpose to find out if that car can do the job. Additionally I just heard that it has the push to pass function and I'm curious to see if that has a extra fun factor.

If you are able to join, I would love to hear your opinion afterwards.

Results of the race. I know they are on sgp, but I find very interesting the amount of additional information Simresults gives (sectors, best theoretical lap, race developmet in terms of positions etc.).

Ford Escort on tracks where it has some curbs to eat, Spa, Monza, Imola...

There's a very good legal version of Zolder here at RD. Would be cool for any small car like the Escort or MX5...

In general I'm a fan of "same conditions for everyone". So I like events with only one car and preferably those with less setup options. Therefore I like high powered street cars, for example the Ferrari 458 (street or stage 1)...

Thanks Reik. I really appreciate your input. Zolder would be great but isn't available (yet) on S.gp. I will add it to our wishlist. That list is already quite long. For instance Bathurst is on it.

But this morning I saw that recently TT Circuit Assen (autosport layout) has become available. I did some laps there and I liked it for the MX5 and GT3's. Maybe you can give it a try also and let me know what you think?

I think the MX5 is good for novices & experienced drivers alike. Likewise, in my opinion, the Formula Abarth falls in to the same category. It's been a good while since I've driven the Tatuus (if you've not raced with it, it must be years), it emphases the importance of maintaining the cars momentum through corners. It's good for overtaking and because it's an open wheel car, the apexes are easier to hit. It's also fairly neutral and everyone gets to use paddle shifters.

Personally, I'd rather there be a mix of cars because there is always something that can be learned from each one.

I'm on a 2-9 shift, so I won't be able to make the test race.

Jon, it was a shame you weren't in the race. However, there's no "race control" as you may think of, I think. The host is simply repeating the recommendations listed in the rules so if you basically run safely, do not divebomb in T1 / L1 and respect the golden rule, you are ok to run, at least that's my humble opinion. During the race there are no announcements whatsoever, just the above mentioned recommendations at the beginning.

Thanks, that makes sense, I should have realized that, and in retrospect I do wish I'd gone ahead and run the race. C'est la vie... There will be others, and I figured out the Discord issue. I'd forgotten that I had silenced the thing because I get tired of the little cheerful sound it makes when something posts. D'oh! Incidentally, the pace of the lead guys still leaves me shaking my head. I put a fair amount of time and effort into getting down to the high-27's, and they're cranking out low-24's. May say more about me than them, but still... due respect.

I was able to get down to the mid 27 just after a lot of practice, two races (one vs AI, the other with the chaps here). However there was a mid pack of cars all on similar pace so the fun is guaranteed, whatever the aliens pace is. We all wish we could be like them but with the time I can invest in an hobby like this, I am pretty happy with what I'm getting now, I still hopefully have 30-ish years ahead, see what @Kek700 is doing, I hope I can reach his results sooner or later

So true, Omar.
I've watched a lap from Enzo and I can't see much difference in racelines. But he was able to stay in 4th in turn 11 because he could take more speed there.
And I asked him how he could be about 2,5s faster. His answer was: less braking, more throttle.
So now you all know the secret. Now go and do it

Road Atlanta America would be a good idea. I have some insider information that there will be an event with slightly faster Cars on a Tuesday somewhere in the next weeks

My mistake. I meant Road America

The fast corners feel great with the MX5 but they will not be that easy with the GT3.
I think Road America is fun enough for a MX5 event but it will be an easy one compared to the former three races.

I agree on both these points and as much as I love the MX5 the shifting I think is ill-suited for transitioning to the GT3 Sunday race. My spin in T10...sorry @HF2000 ...was due, partly, to shifting into second and unbalancing the car. Yes, it was driver error but I rarely have the rear-end snap out on me due to shifting later in the braking zone when driving a GT3.

As for a solution? I like the idea of open-wheel cars (thinking Skip Barber in iRacing) and think it would be a great learning tool to be able to see the apexes. My motorsport ignorance is showing ...as I have no other alternative suggestion.

Open wheelers are probably not the best choice for transitioning to GT3.
I'd suggest Lotus Exige 240R, or a slightly faster Exige V6 Cup, or GT4 cars.
