Slightly Mad Studios have released a number of new previews for the upcoming Project CARS 2 as well as a first look at dedicated servers...

Released as part of a recent batch of update images, Slightly Mad Studios have confirmed the GT4 specification KTM X-BOW will be making it's series debut in the new game, presumably alongside the original open top X-BOW that formed part of the first game release car roster.

Other vehicles included in the gallery images include the mighty Le Mans specification Jaguar XJR, the equally impressive historic version of the Nissan Skyline Silhouette Formula, Skyline R34 and of course as no racing game is complete nowadays without a massive GT3 field, so enter the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3.

Dedicated Servers

Additional to the car and track previews recently revealed by Slightly Mad Studios, the development team have also given fans a sneak peak at some of the early proposed functionality behind the game in respect to how dedicated servers will work in Project CARS 2.

Unfortunately it appears that player rankings and the collection of rating points will remain when drivers race on dedicated servers, with no opportunity for server admins to assign penalties and warnings during a race. SMS have taken the decision to leave out this feature within dedicated servers, however they remain confident that the automated system employed by Project CARS 2 will prove to be efficient in a league environment, stating that the software has been tested and balanced for 18 months. Perfect for online open multiplayer lobbies, it remains to be seen how this feature will be received by league admins who typically like to control the penalisation element of an event manually by driver appeals and live stewarding decisions.

The released images from the dedicated servers do however show a very nice looking and compact piece of software with some nice and useable looking features that will surely come as a blessing to those of us who wish to create our own racing events. As can be seen from the attached screenshots, it appears that multiclass racing with selectable opponents will be possible, as will the ability to create and save your own rules packages, player ratings lockouts, number of sessions and all the usual driving aids and event realism settings. This looks to be a considerable improvement over the previous game and again shows SMS' intention to improve the online hosting and broadcasting experience within the new title.

We know Project CARS 2 will be shipping with over 170 cars at initial launch and already we have an idea about some of the cars expected to feature within the game. If you want to keep an eye out on what's been confirmed or leaked so far, check out the Project CARS 2: The Cars Revealed So Far thread (regularly updated) to stay abreast with the latest reveals.

Project CARS 2 will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC towards the end of 2017.

@ermo thanks for all the info. Only talking from my own standpoint now, but i don't need gazillion features. Take PC1, give it FFB and physics of Assetto Corsa level, give it good netcode, and i am already happy. Give it a few of the shown features in addition like "lifetrack", and i am more then happy.

I just wish Pcars allowed Modders, and then this would maybe be up there with the best of them, if it has really improved from the first version ?

I'm a huge proponent of modding myself, but as I understand it, there is a gentleman's agreement in place for SMS to not actively support modding (but it's worth noting that they don't actively discourage it either!).

So no, modding will likely be just as annoying in pCARS 2 as it is in pCARS 1 unfortunately. :(

Please tell me they are going to have an offline championship season mode! The lack of it killed the replayability of the first one for me.
There won't be any custom championship on day 1 because they think that theirs (the one in Project CARS2) is better. Although, because many people have been asking for it, they might put that in a free update.

Well,
I was one of these guys who bashed PCars... Even if at the begining, I was quite satisfied about it..
I so decided to re-install the game, and tried it again...and, to be honest, there is plenty of good stuff.
The most important "wrong thing" for me is the Tyre model, or the way the "overall grip" is calculated (everything is based on the rear grip, if you keep it, the car is a beast, if you loose it, the car spin like a "pre-calculated'loose of grip") that was strange... I read that developpers worked a lot about it. I also read that they now use laserscaned tracks, wich is really great news. If they release a better AI (they says they will) and a tweaked ffb, this title would be great.
I don't expect a "real sim", more something like AC (wich is for me, not a "real sim", but that's not the subject here), I only hope that graphics won't be "too much asking", my gtx1070 is as its limits with pc1, I hope pc2 won't be more demanding....
So now, even if some things disapointed me in the 1, I won't "bash it" again... Now i'm curious about pc2 ;) and these info are good to see.

many people posted in the pc forums that they were disappointed it was not included. I believe they investigated adding it through a patch but decided against it as it was going to be too difficult to do. I fear if it is not in pc2 at Launch then it won't be added down the track.

I can't blame devs for NOT allowing modding and going the DLC route. Devs gotta eat, I doubt there many millionaires in gaming, and I'm willing to bet that more get laid off than hired on. If they allowed modding into Pcars, you've hurting PC2 sales, why would a for-profit enterprise do that? Fortunately, there are devs like Reiza who support both, and I have happily paid for dev DLC to support these guys. And frankly, their DLC is better than any mods I've downloaded (bar maybe EEC's GTE and GT3). I'm older, have less time to race, so I really don't want to be bothered keeping up with versions and downloading stuff on a lark. I don't want to lose 20 mins of my very limited sim time installing, testing, and sometimes finding out it's not very good (AC is a big offender in this, IMO). I am also in a good situation where I can afford to buy sims, I havem ore money than time sadly, so I want to be able to drop into a game and play. Pcars and RRRE are probably the best for that to me. I've put over 170+ hours into pCars (high for me, far and away the most played game in my catalog) and I'm still only up to LMP2 in my first career. I LOVE their career mode and while I hope they have something like it in PC2, I most wish for a custom championship mode (and mid-race saving would be a dream come true) on top of what they had in PC1 and what I've seen in PC2.

I doubt the lack of modding has much to do with monetary reasons. Ian himself commented that they weren't really making any money off DLC for the prices they were selling at.

It's likely more for eSports than anything else (i.e. reduce possible cheating)...

Its not only that with Modding, also as you see in sim racing modding scene, quality is hugely inconsistent

PCARS 1 allows car mods but no track mods.
Or do you want to see rF1 tracks in PCARS? How should it work in PCARS 2 with Livetrack 3.0? Pretty sure it would be huge work to mod a track properly into PCARS 2 ...
