Pace was good with pole and fastest lap. But a clash with Tim Snikkenberg ended the race for me, completely my fault Tim, sorry.
I spun and stalled the engine (is there any way to recover from that in a car without starter in rFactor??).

I could've also steered a bit wider to allow a bit more room for error
The car is restart able in the pits...at least it was for me when I figured out I tried using the wrong button to restart the engine when I let the engine stall.

Absolutely crazy intense racing. I was never more than 2s away from other cars in the first stints despite leading. Got overtaken as my tyre wear got worse later in the end of a stint. Tried the overcut by a lap, but it didn't work to get back in the lead. When the Yellow came out just as Joe was in the pits, I got lucky that Alberto was penalised a lap for something silly (which we quite rightly let him get the laps back), so restarted with worn front tyres behind Joe's brand new set and with Alberto at the back.
During those slow laps, I worked out that tyre temps was what slowed me down, rather than wear. The fronts were at like 60%, but because they had dropped below 100C I had crazy grip for a couple of laps. This showed that it wouldn't really matter how late or early I pitted, I was only going to have a couple of fast laps before settling into the ~28.0s laps of worn tyres.

Caution came out around the time I needed to pit, so I headed towards pit road really slowly and waited for the leader to cross the line so the pits would open. Doing my full stop under caution worked well, because Alberto pitted next lap as the race restarted, and I found myself 15s ahead of him. Slowly everyone started pitting and I was cycled into the lead with such a gap. A couple of very short cautions went by, and because the Safety Car would drive on and then put straight away, I was able to keep my lead for a couple of them, until the Caution with 9 laps to go when everyone else cottoned on and closed the gap. Alberto got me a couple of laps later (and we somehow survived wheel-to-wheel contact). My tyres were gone though so despite having cooled them down I just couldn't mount a proper challenge. The last caution gave us a 3 lap shootout, but Alberto accelerated before the green flag and I sat back expecting a penalty for him that never came, so settled for a very sweaty second in the end!


In the Autumn we will definitely have to try Indy again!
