Indy 500 | Honda Scupper Alonso / Andretti Indy Chances

You are not missing anything... This is just a childish behavior from Honda IMO

Honda is an international brand and they have every right to choose to not power a driver who so publicly diminished their public image at the highest level of motorsport. The performance of the engine at the time is irrelevant, it is about building a business partnership. Alonso, for all his natural driving talent unfortunately even as a maturing driver didn't possess this key business relationship skill.

Honda also isn't affiliated with Alonso's direct McLaren 'keepers' anymore, who ditched Honda for Renault in F1 last year.

Honda still has a long way to go in F1, but after what can be described as a successful season in F1 last year they simply don't need Alonso anymore and Alonso's previous behaviour isn't going to lure them back any time soon.

The Alonso Indy 500 fairytale kind of lost it's sting when he failed to qualify last year, reducing his marketability in the series.
