Hosting a Multiplayer Server

Hello guys,
my friend and I tried to play on a server he hosted.
I can see his server in the steam list, no problem, but everytime i try to join i get "join timed out".
So maybe he forwarded the wrong ports or something? Anyone who can help with that? Maybe someone can tell the ports that have to be opened?
Or any other suggestions why it doesn't work?
Thanks in advance!

Got it working thanks! Reason I couldn't get the game starting is I was trying to run from steam, but as you say using the executable directly worked.

Then the next problem was joining a server from the steam browser. Solution is to right click your server in the browser , click 'server info' and write down the ip address + port. Then go ingame and click the '+' in multiplayer menu and input your ip.

The next problem was that i was getting 'join timed out'. In the other thread discovered 2 more ports that need opening,
AMS Dedicated.exe TCP 34747 , and
AMS Dedicated.exe UDP 49632.

Now all is good, maybe this will help others having the same difficulty I was.
Just a note also I found for me that if I run more than one server at a time you need to add an additional number to the TCP 34747 otherwise you get timed out on the extra servers you have added

EG: I had to open TCP 34747 34748 34749 for 3 server to run correctly even though I could not find these ports listed in any on the .ini or .plr files

Yes you can see it when you (the same connection as the server) select the "LAN" option on the multiplayer screen. This is how I run our server and it works perfect.

I do know that you can only see 6 server ports on the LAN. My server ports range from 34590 thru 34604 and I can only see the following ports by LAN for some reason: 34595 ,34596 34597, 34598, 34599, 34600.

[EDIT] This was meant as direction if you have a separate server computer and a separate gaming rig.

Ports look ok to me
great little program for servers is https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/tcpview

run tcpview on your server and you can see all the ports a server is trying to establish a connection thru. it shows more ports than you actually need open but you can see which ones are listening for a connection.

I also found i had to run my server shortcuts as "run as administrator"

are you using windows 10 or 7? i had no luck whatsoever running my servers on windows 10 for some reason, just would not find the servers, tried on many different windows 10 builds. Win 7 works flawlessly for me.

You could always try the option of activating the DMZ of your router.
