What you showed there with Patrese, was team orders, as you said, Patrese had no chance to win the championship.
That´s team work in my opinion and probably would have went the other way had Patrese been the quicker one with more points.

I don´t know.. to me nr1 and nr2 is a fictional thing. Only thing that decides that if you want to call it something is your own performance through the season.
Like if Alonso had stayed in the race at Suzuka, Massa is right ahead.
Obviously the team will make a call and say let Alonso past, he´s in the title hunt.
It doesn´t necessarily mean Massa is a nr2 driver, just supporting the team for it´s best interests.
