Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Are any of you long time racers good at coaching? I need a few tips - and I don't mean random tips. I want to be able to speak to you one on one if that's possible.

There are some good methods for this, the way you described, which I would love to help you with.
Unfortunately I am quite deaf, so it would be a constant, a , what , pardon, conversation.:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
Someone else may chime in, we used to have in racedepartment a monthly school just for that. Which could be resurrected, assuming the person involved would do it again.
The other route is MoTeC , in its simplest form, Rasmus has a set of instructions for getting it running in an article, as described in this recent Silverstone forum.
Even dim wit me , got it running without any help, not exactly straight forward, but easily achievable.
You just need the basics , brake, accelerator, steering input, differential trace, ground speed, circuit layout and a trace to compare. You can then see were you are loosing time.
All you have to do is get your own trace and then compare it to me, or another volunteer or you could do it in steps. I can do laps in different times for you, so you can go step by step. unfortunately that is only to my limit.:(
I could meet up, and using the dialogue box or a limited form of team speak you could follow me around, so that I can show you reasonably correct lines, up to my standard, I am certainly no Patrick or Chris.
It is just finding a time slot. Maybe twenty minuets before the race on the practice server.
Best I can do, someone else will I am sure have a much better solution.
It is really is just creating a sound basis to improve upon, not that you will be flashing Chris to move over within a couple of races:roflmao::roflmao: you never know. I have come across, rarely admittedly, those exceptional people in life who could do that, but unfortunately you like me will have to take the average joe soap route, like me.:( But that funnily it is always the best and most satisfying way.

@Goblin616 I started to post videos of my own laps for general critique from the group. It means you are laying bare your flaws, but I felt that there were enough others in a similar position to me that it might also help them too. It's fairly time consuming though. I am going to try and jump on tonight to get at least a few laps practice in and will try and do the same again.

The MoTeC route is more accurate, but it's also majorly depressing to see that your four second deficit is due to about 5mph per corner! :D

@Kek700, @RasmusP would you be willing to share your MoTec files here? I know it's not ideal to compare different cars when you are trying to get the last ounce out, but I still think it's useful for getting an idea where you are woefully rubbish

Telemetry:

Setup attached!

It's not the cleanest lap...
My theoretical best (when you quit the session, content manager shows you the theoretical best) was 0.4s faster but I didn't manage to pull it off...

Such a difficult track to nail every corner in one lap, arghs.
But won't practice until the race so that's what I can offer :p

I'm using Phils Ferrari setup with a click lower wing, more coast diff, a few little changes here and there but not much really.
Mostly trying to get it more understeery until the apex and less understeery from apex to exit.
And gearing of course!

The last time that I raced @ the Nurburgring I was out qualified & out raced by @GEO147 , and given that you haven't changed cars, I'm very worried .

Ahhh!!! Those were the days, with Raresch, George and you, all of you-were quicker, I just sat behind , the best I could, who ever it was, waited, waited and eventually they would fly off the circuit. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
And by I would sail by.

ps
just spotted what you posted, you Rotter.

from nine months ago. Great battling for the first few laps. Chris defending well but falling to p4...haven't watched the full race but it's helpful all the same.

Yeah, that one was a nightmare. Couldn't get the mediums to work in the first few laps at all and everyone else was on softs :D Pretty unusual, could have just been a bad day at the office.

Hey guys. I can try the MoTeC thing. I like looking at proper telemetry data, and learning to use it. I used that in F1 challenge which came with a great telemetry tool. Of course a lot of it is beyond me, but I understand some of it.

The reason I brought it up is that someone (sadly can't remember name) who watched me do some laps (assuming he 'jumped' in my car) and said I was slow coming out of corners. Now I know that's really bad, and I realise it, but I just don't know how to fix it. I've brought my time down, but I really struggle to get under 2m. My quickest time in practice is 1:59.446 (488 GT3), and 1:59.485 (AMG GT3). But those are very tough to achieve for me. This puts me 2-3s slower than the average. Now I don't mind being at the back, and was going to aim for a race pace of 2:02 +/- 1s.

I haven't done a 'long run' practice yet, and was going to do that this weekend. I may even drop out of the race, I haven't decided.

Was actually me. I just noticed that your corner speed was slow and that you took couple of corners in too high of a gear. Like last corner in 3rd you can try 2nd to keep the rpm higher and really push out of the corner. Also chicane before last corner was in 4th, would try 3rd gear. 90° Bend after first sector, you are in 4th gear, I would try 3rd. But you are using a different car then me, And I changed my gearing. But by just watching your rpm numbers from my experiance they were a bit too low.

Ok, I need to practice a bit! I managed to get 10 laps in the 488, so I was starting to get clean, then I go compare to your telemetry and I'm 4 seconds down! :D I switched to the 911 and was even slower...

Looking at Chris's replay I can see I'm making a right pig's ear of pretty much the entire track. I'll try and get on tomorrow and get a few more laps in now I have a bit more idea of positioning and braking points

On the subject of the 488, anyone else find the cockpit very dark in VR? I quite like the handling, but the contrast is very weird and immersion breaking

The 488 cockpit changes a lot with some pp filters! But yeah, it's extremely dark compared to other cockpits!

The Nürburgring is a really difficult track imo! It's probably my most driven track though, because I love the Nordschleife and did basically every RD race in ac and rf2 around the Nords and somehow also of the Nurb...

Still hate it but the battles are awesome since you can overtake around the outside, the inside, brake early, late, pressure into mistakes, the whole package!

The issue with this track is that you have a lot of differently shaped corners, different lerbs and especially elevation changes.
So sometimes you have to be super careful on the brakes because the rear will come around and at the next apex the car is just washing wide with massive understeer.

To be fast I think you need a setup where you will always spin if you steer too much. Chris is very good with such setups imo.
I'm not...

I really like the Ferrari around this track though because it somehow has less understeer when being halfway on the throttle compared to slight braking or coasting!
So you just need to keep it somehow stable to the apex and then mash the throttle and you'll be able to still correct your line while accelerating.
Other cars start to drift or going wide when you do this...

This is a very difficult circuit, probably the worst for going quickly, as Stefan said. Being in the wrong gear very
badly affects your lap time, it seems impossible to gain 1/10th but very easy to lose 5/10ths.
If you look at someone in a higher gear and there going quickly, it means they are hanging onto their speed. Chris very often does that, using the torque from the engine to maintain that speed then add to it.

Try not to be hard on yourself , your doing fine.

I get far more pleasure from the trying, as opposed to the racing. The racing gives the trying a meaning, that’s all.

I really struggle to get any useful information from MoTeC, but I now always use it to go, try, quicker. The earlier you start the easier it will become.

I keep meaning to initiate an article on MoTeC, for everyone to use it as a resource for specific questions, but as I have a thousand questions and only a couple of answers, ( I am at present reasonably okay with the software ). Maybe one day.

It is difficult enough getting to grips with the software let alone getting useful information from it.

it is a great journey, don’t loose out on it by being put off in the beginning.
