AC Group C "Special Event" @ Le Mans - Wednesday 7th Oct 2020

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Really interesting, trying all the combinations, nothing is popping out to me as being obvious.:O_o:
Every car has it’s advantages and disadvantages, in the end I think the quickest consistent driver will win out, nothing changes .:(

It is interesting Ernie, this could be a race where you don't fight others (too much :p), but run to your own strategy...unless something unexpected happens. Reckon the picture of where the race is going to be will be in the last 10 laps or so... excellent!

Had a chuckle when you said it's bogey track for you; and me too matey - this and Monza, find it really hard to find a rhythm, time to get the Viagra out:p:p

Yes agree about Monza too, this last 12months I seem to make lots of small mistakes that I would normally not make. Getting too old. :(
This is especially true of long circuits, Le-Mans is agood example, at the end of the long straights I just sort of wander off, suddenly realising I have passed my braking point. Without ABS this becomes 10x worse.

PS looks like moan about ABS, it’s not , I don't mind driving these without all the help’s that are on modern cars.

The reality is 700hp cannot be transmitted through the rear tyres in first, second or third gear, that’s the fun of it, they are just plain difficult but very rewarding to drive.

Another comment, I think that you and bobby have done a great job with this
event, for all my natural pessimism, it comes very naturally to me. :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:
Could turn out to be an event for everyone to stand a chance of getting a podium. So easy to get a strategy that does or does not work depending on how the race pans out. The fuel strategy is particularly interesting, not what I expected there.:O_o:

Just found out listening to the news that Donald Trump tests positive for COVID-19
Our thoughts and prayers are with the virus at this difficult time.:(

Lol! Reading your post for the first time, I was really worried about you until reading the word "virus". then I got the joke and wasn't worried any more...

I'm very sorry but I have to sign out.

I'm not dropping out, but I'm going to be a maybe. I've got a busy week ahead, & as I think the ST is going to be a lonely drive*, I'm not sure that I'm going to have enough time to learn (find a setup...) the LT, C9 or Mazda.

*I don't know if everyone is aware that refueling in the Group C cars takes far longer than changing the tires. A fresh set of tires with every pitstop is therefore a no-brainer. From my initial test, the ST will do 6 laps with a full tank. Unfortunately, the softs appeared knackered after the out-lap & most likely won't last a qualifying round. With the softs ruled out, and the hard tyres overkill with just 5-6 laps between each pitstop, my strategy options are somewhat limited in the ST. In contrast, the C9 (not tested the LT) is faster & more fuel efficient.

Apologies if the above comes across as negative. I do appreciate the effort that goes in to putting on these events.

I'll race with you in the ST mate

@Medilloni, feel free to put me in for the ST. Thanks for organising!

Thanks for the heads up Patrick - and if you swap to the LT I'm happy to post my setup (obviously not the fastest!).

I timed a pit stop yesterday, takes 12 seconds, so yes it's a no brainer to swap tyres too.

Re tyres; for some weird reason I get 4/5 very good laps from the softs,, they are in the red near the end but still feel good. In my meagre hands there is very little in lap times 'tween the softs and mediums though. So a potential strategy might be 2 x stints on mediums, 1 x shorter stint on softs. But there are other options...:sneaky:

Hope you can make it:)

John is correct, tried all cars, most combinations, in the end strategy and the race will all come together. Some cars are Faster some slower, some good average. Example, the ST Is extremely sure footed, unlikely to come off. Running the C9 you will be quick but you will stand a good chance of off’s. The ST can create good average laps consistently with a fast driver. The Mazda is very quick, but you are going to have to juggle wing with stability, with the Mazda you also get the best fuel consumption. I am not good with oversteer so the Mazda is not for me, but for someone it’s a good chance of a win. I could go on, but enough said. :)
