Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Intense and fun!

Did a short practice yesterday and hoped it was enough for today. Got some pace in practice and PB'd in qualy.

Grid P7, managed to catch all the beehives and find myself in P3, Raul chasing me close. I think he was scared by my early braking in the last turn, avoiding a hit but going off roead himself. Sorry if I scared you Raul!
Got the buzzin' bastards on my tail the next laps, but I was not in the zone yet, so couldn't do anything better than drive some weird lines to defend. Saw Paul laughing in the mirror just before he smoothly passed me on the flowing downhill...

Guys ahead pitted, I was chasing Rico in P1, he was (way) quicker but he kindly handed me P1 after a short inspection of the gravel. Found myself on P1 for a couple of laps, with Rico growing bigger in my mirror lap by lap. I was preparing for battle, but he entered the pits, leaving me all by myself on P1... well, I kept going for a few more laps, until Han was closing in too fast, and I decided not to play with Han in the beehive, so I pitted. Got to T1 one again, just behind Rico and juuuust in front of beehive Ricardo. Great to have T1's like this where one can try to do something without crashing into each other! And some great driving there Ricardo! You're pretty quick in the beehive!

Back to chasing Rico, at some point we had quite the same pace for a while and we were 1 or 2 seconds apart. Unfortunately he overpowered the exit on the kerb (I think) and there I was, in P5. With 15 minutes to go, my only task was to race as steady as possible. Somehow I managed to do that and finished P5, second in class. Pretty consistent and no crashed. I'll celebrate that!

That was a lot of fun, nice racing guys! Mega pace at the front and Allan and Rico really squeezed the pace from the mazda, great to see.

Congrats to the podium and thank you Han!

Very enjoyable race tonight.
Did a little bit of practice this afternoon and qualified P6 which is great for me. I knew the suzukis were slow off the line, but did not think they were that slow:). Was passed by a lot of cars and then someone tagged me into T1. So spun out and then when trying to catch up Ieft the race track once or twice as I lost concentration.

I managed to find some consistency and was putting in a few decent lap times. Andre came out of the pits and we had a bit of a race for about 3 laps. Decided to pit to try and get some clean air as I thought i could go quicker and catch up to a few guys. Missed my pit box and had to reverse in :(. Came out stone last and just behind Gavin. We battled quite nicely for 3 laps or so. The suzuki is quick in the corners, but tricky to pass a Mazda if they defend properly, which Gavin did.Was eventually able to pass and I put my head down and tried to catch Paulo. As I was about 3 seconds away he ran off track and thats the quickest I passed a Mazda tonight. Then I saw David was about 2 seconds slower per lap and about 16 seconds ahead with 25 minutes or so to go, so went into hot lap mode and did some nice laps. Got into the 2:08's which I was chuffed about. Caught @davejevons with about 12 minutes to go and we had a very nice battle for the last 12 minutes. I just could not find a place to pass him. Last lap and last corner I sent it down the inside and David cut in a bit and I drifted out a bit and we collided. Would have been interesting to see the race to the finish line, but I think David would have got it.

Very fun race and like usual some good and respectful driving.

Thanks to all, congrats to the podiums and Thanks Han for organising.

And some great driving there Ricardo! You're pretty quick in the beehive!

Thanks, but no merit from my end, the beehive was clearly faster around here than the hairdresser's porsche.
And if you had looked closer in the mirrors you would've seen me also inspecting the gravel on that T1 because I was focusing so much on the mirrors I missed my break point by 2 kilometers! :roflmao:

Overall not a good race from me, I felt underperforming the entire time, just could not get in the zone for more than one lap here and there. Felt really good and in the flow of the track during practice last weekend, but this time I had to really push to get a half-decent time. Guess I'm just too tired and my mind just kept wondering through intrusive thoughts. Oh well, there's always next week.

Despite that I did have fun, it was nice to take part in the Kimi train for the first laps, then I connected to the David train and after a lull in mid-race I was happy to see Raul and Andre close in my mirrors when I left the pits. In those last 20 minutes they were closing the gap and that gave me something to keep pushing till the end - thanks!

Congrats to the podiums and thanks Han for hosting another great race.
See you next week!

Thanks Bouke! :D That's my favourite graph... paints a great picture of the entire race.

Mugello is about rhythm and it showed in my race... I found some during practice but my exits were untidy still so I struggled in general with pace... yet somehow I hit a niner on qualy and that put me on a decent spot for the race. Like Bouke I also had a good start, got past a good bunch of beehives and managed to get aboard the Kimi-train for a couple of laps... it got intense until I missed a braking point for being too close to the pack and ended up in the gravel... lost more positions than I had gained so I put my head down and got to work... I found better rhythm and managed a good lustrum of qualy laps, each faster than the next one, trying to achieve an undercut... to whom I don't know, I just thought it was the only thing I could do at that point to recover any positions possible.

Pitting went well and I exited just ahead of Andre... we pushed each other's laptimes and got close to Ricardo's beehive. The man was consistent and had great pace so closing in was difficult but just when we got in reach I had another off due to a mis-gear on entry at the fourth corner... I slotted back behind Andre and tried to get back in contention but being on the last laps we stood no chance. Andre had a little offroad and let me through and we crossed the line together.

The race was intense and entertaining! Thank you for organising Han, Mugello didn't disappoint. Congratulations to the winners and podium finishers, from what I read everybody had a bit of fun! Hopefully the Renault 5 contributes to closer battles... but I'm gonna need a stable setup in order to get it working for me.

See you at the next race chaps!

This was indeed great fun at my favorite Mugello. First time with the Suzuki but boy what a joy to drive it in sector 2, especially Casanova, Savelli and the Arrabiatti's.

Qualified 2nd after the untouchable Jason but of course at the start I had to let a lot of Mazda's pass on the straight towards T1. I came out 8th and started with the overtake game to try to get back on the podium.
That went well but two incidents with Andre and Kimi threw me back again so I finished 4th with Allan in my sights. Thanks all for racing. I really enjoyed it.

The voting for the track of the month is at the moment a tie with 3 tracks. You can change your vote until tonight otherwise I will choose the Sachsenring.

Thanks for setting this up Han, one of my favorite tracks too!

Racing was intense not only in the opening laps trying to make up the ground lost at the start, but also with you, Allan and Jason as the race went on.

I pitted early with Jason to try to find some air but came out behind Dave who defended well. It was great racing though guys, very hard but importantly clean and fair.

If anyone wants to drive in an open wheeler at Barcelona then tonight's the night, still time to enter.

And while this is a few weeks away, here is something that might interest the Wednesday night guys, more multiclass mayhem! It's an experiment so the more entrants the more fun to be had.;)

pheew, this one was a bit trickier than I was expecting. All the combos where the exit of one corner is so fundamental to being able to make the following one really caught me out. Consistency plagued me the whole session and small mistakes are paid with loads of time on these fast corners.
I'm overall satisfied with the progression I made during the race but once again I found the pace too late to be able to challenge Dave. Sorry for the T1 incident, Richard, I lost my rear I think and slid sideways into you. It was a fairly lonely race apart from one lap slowing Raul and another one chasing Gavin.

Congrats to the winners and thanks to everyone else for the nice racing, and the organization as well.
Until next week at...(Valencia? go vote and make it happen ;) )

It was great to be back in the MX5 after an extended break.

I couldn't replicate my pace from practice and whenever I tried to push I seemed to lose grip from one end or the other. Raul made the point that it was all about finding the rhythm, which I definitely didn't have.

While the Mazda was slower than the Suzuki I had good battles with Ricardo, Paul and Richard in their Suzukis where I was able to defend for prolonged periods of time. I did feel sorry for Paul as I wasn't really racing him and he got caught up behind me having pitted earlier. I would have normally just let him past but was trying not to let Ricardo through at the same time.

Well that was great, thanks guys. Last off the grid but stayed with everyone for the first few laps, even passing those who had unfortunate misteps. It was nice to race close with others. I had one small off whilst being squeezed between two of the faster cars catching up and then I settled in to but in some consistent laps.
Luckily managed to pass Richard whilst he pitted and had a brilliant 3 lap battle where he was stuck to the back of me but didn't seem to be able to pass, the whole time I was just praying I didn't do something stupid and take us both off. All in all it was a great 3 laps and made my race, Thanks Richard.

All in all a great night, thanks roll on next Wednesday.

You did great, Gavin! Good awareness of the cars when you were about to be overtaken. You're really improving although you maybe don't feel that way.

That was a lot of fun! Thanks to all who participated.

I went the Bouke route this week as I didn't practice much beforehand. Not really my choice as I got sick over the weekend. So when Wednesday came around I watched a video of someone setting a 2:06.5xx or something. Grabbed their setup and tried to copy the line. That seemed to have worked as I went 1.5s faster after I got used to how much it wanted to turn. I'll be experimenting with setups like this in the future.

Had a great qualy being the fastest Mazda, but as usual Allan just torpedoed off the line so the chase was on. At the start I didn't want to fight Allan and just grow the gap behind us and get settled in the race. A few laps in, I saw Allan going a bit deep into the last corner and this set me up for a chance in T1. The man squeezed me so hard (but fair) that I couldn't get past him, so I awaited my next chance.

The Suzuki's were gaining on us though. First Jason, then Paul. And all the while I was struck with doubt. Should I fight the Suzuki's and possibly let Allan get away? Or should I let them pass whilst trying to lose as little time as possible?
At the last possible moment before turn 1, having Jason right on my ass, I decided I would let him by. It resulted in braking a bit too late, but it all worked out in the end.

But then I saw Allan defending his position vs Jason and I started doubting myself again as Paul was nearing me. This time I decided to defend the position. At one of the last corners I chose the inside line, thinking it would slow the Suzuki down enough so I could get ahead. But he just went around and sped past me! I'm used to how much grip the Suzuki has, but it still caught me by surprise. :D

With the Suzuki's now in front, I set my sights back on Allan again. Saw him pit 2.4s in front of me and I decided to try an overcut. But as I was speeding towards the first chicane I was watching the relatives so I could determine how much time I had to gain. When I got my eyes back on track I was staring at the wrong marker and missed the corner. I saw Bouke approaching and decided to stay off track for a bit longer to not hinder him. In hindsight I had enough time to still get back on track. I was bummed out because I felt I really had a chance to beat Allan and I don't get that chance very often.

Some laps later I saw Allan suddenly dropping like 8 seconds and this motivated me to push hard again. I was gaining on Bouke and right before we would've had a fight I decided to pit. Nothing personal Bouke, I swear. ;) If I had any chance to still fight Allan, I couldn't afford losing time fighting others. Right after I came out of the pit, I was regretting my choice as I saw Allan 10s in front of me. So no fight with Allan and now no fight with Bouke either...

Or so I thought! Bouke pitted after me and got behind me, but he was gaining pace and eventually got within a second. It was back to pushing again because I would've lost another position. It was going quite well until I came out of a corner a bit too fast and touched the grass which spun me around, missing Bouke by a hair.

With 15 minutes to go I had to set qualy times each lap to have a chance to win back the position. But Bouke proved to be consistent and managed the gap quite well, deservedly winning P2 within class.

Which reminds me.. I've seen some great improvements throughout the entire grid the last few races. Bouke has been getting more consistent and it's showing since he's ending up higher on the grid. Maybe I should try lapping Nords more. It seems to work out ;)

Another driver that's making great strides is Ricardo. I already noticed this the last few races as his pace was going up. But what stood out to me in this race is that he's improving his fighting spirit! There were times I really had to concentrate and push to defend the position. My heart rate definitely went up when I saw him approaching in the mirror.

Keep it up guys! You're making this more fun and interesting.

Sorry about the long post. See it as compensation for not writing anything the last few weeks. :roflmao:

Thanks again everyone. Congrats to the podiums. Hope to see you next Wednesday!

Yeah that was a great 3 lap battle. You defended well and got good exits where you needed to in order to keep me behind. So you made it difficult to pass, but you raced very fair so I also really enjoyed it. From the few races I have raced you definitely are becoming more consistent and faster compared to the first time I raced. I was also just hoping I would not crash into you at times because the braking points were a lot different for the 2 cars.

But the battle with you and the battle with David made this the most enjoyable race so far since rejoining the racing club.

Looking forward to Wednesday again.
