Welcome to the RD Racing Club.

From Lago Maggiore to Tuscany is not a big trip. Lucca is a beautiful city, certainly worth a visit as you will see when you join the race for this week. The track takes us on the ring road outside the ancient city walls with even some roundabouts to master. The scenery is great but beware of the ditch on the inside. If you go there, you can't get out and you need to teleport to the pits.
The circuit is in my top ten of favorite tracks.

Guys,

If you have the time and want to help me, you can now test two cars to see if they are an alternative for the MX5 Cup. You can find the mods on Assettoworld (dotcom). These are the cars:
  • bmw-e30-325i-rally
  • renault-5-turbo2-gr4-cevennes
Server 2 is now running a practice session with these cars on the RedBullRing.

The sound of the BMW is awful, I've replaced it myself for now with the sound of the Alfa GTA but suggestions for a more realistic sound are welcome.

First impressions on DEFAULT settings:

- BMW is a lot of fun to drive, and the sound is actually good! ...until you reach the red-line, then it just makes your ears bleed. Felt more nimble compared to the Mazda, maybe a bit too nimble and eager to go sideways. But a lot of fun on the drift! Was the slowest of the trio, but spent a lot of time red-lining so I'm expecting a lot of improvement when I start playing around in the set-up.

- Renault 5, feels quite light but the grip levels are horrendous! I had to adjust my break points almost 50 meters back for every turn! Probably something that can be improved in the settings (both rear wheels were waaaay above the recommended pressure setting), but I'm not expecting any miracles. And Han, it seems you somehow managed to find a car with a slower start than the Suzuki! Great job! Despite all this, if you can tame the beast for an entire lap it does deliver and I feel it will likely be faster than the Mazda. Much faster on more capable hands probably.
If this car does make it to the rooster that will mean though decisions for me. I'm quite emotional about this given that my fist car was a Renault 5 Saga (FWD and with maybe 3 or 4 bhp, but still, R5!).

Oh! And both cars are missing a gear! And ABS! And TCS! (just joking, they are great to drive!)
Pro-tip: Adjust the FFB settings to the max for a more realistic feeling! ;)

I will now play around with both car's settings and I will come back with my final thoughts on it.

Final report from me:
- BMW: very fun to drive, I think it has a place in the rooster even if slightly slower than the Mazda.
- Renault: despite my emotional attachment to the model I don't think it's in the same class, drives much faster than both the Mazda and the BMW. And that's in my sloppy hands! Someone with proper skill I guess the difference is even greater!

About the set-ups:
- Surprisingly increasing the gear ratio for the BMW actually made it slower! So red-lining it is! TU-TU-TU-TU all the way! :roflmao: (We really need a proper sound bank for it)
- The R5 is quite fast as long as you can keep it pointing in the right direction. Then you can try to swap the gearbox for the stock version to go in "BEAST MODE" and it just becomes a rocket ship! I found it really hard to drive, and could not find a set-up change that made it better unfortunately.

Thank you so much for sharing these cars with us Han, it was great fun, keep them coming!

The R5 is to fast and consistency is impossible with it, it's about 2 seconds faster but never managed a lap before giving up.

The BMW needs it's sound changing and it's about half a second slower than the MX5 per lap. It's faster on the straights and slower in the corners like the abarth.

Thanks, guys! Faster on the straights and slower in the corner is fine for a RWD car beside the MX5.
For sound change you can you the one from the stock

i really like the Abarth here, but the walls ( and water ) make it too challenging for a race, although i can give the Suzuki a run for its money at this track. there is no room for error when you are on the limit with a car that just keeps on giving in every corner and not turning... :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

Sorry Han, I did not had the time to test it.

And cant make it tonight also.

Ill be arounf tommorrow in the F3 though. ;)

I had to quit guys, pc was acting weird, several freezes sending me into walls. I think I hit someone in lap 1, dunno who it was. Sorry for that! I tried two times to get underway from the pit but two more freezes, losing control, No fun tonight. Download of the track and graphics quality were very heavy, maybe my pretty light gaming pc couldn't handle that.

Again, sorry for disturbing the race.

Hope you had a good one!

:D:D:D:D:D Well after all that hard work and reasonable lap time I get disqualified for my pit stop. Went into the pits thought I had filled up with fuel but apparently not!

For the first time felt as if I wasn't a road block. Might actually be getting the hang of this!

Till next week then.

One more desqualified, I was disconnected of the server, but make a complete lap and went to pits.
Once there I disconed and connect again, later fall down on the trench and again to pits, and later disqualified because not done mandatory pit stop.
Not my day

I think we can all agree this was a hard track.
But at least for me I did enjoy the challenge, a lot. Great track Han!

Sorry to see all the problems with hardware, disconnects and pit stops - even I was not sure if I would make it to the end or get disqualified: I filled up 1 litter of fuel when I teleported to the pits after a silly mistake on the second roundabout ended up in the ditch, I saw the "Pit Window Timer" disappear from the top of the screen (by the way, if you ever are in doubt either you pitted or not: the timer on top of the screen will only display the pit window timer if you have NOT pitted, so if you see it reach 0:00 you will get disqualified! When you pit for the first time it will disappear) but was not really sure if that would've counted in the end.

Had a lot of fun, a few close calls here and there to raise the heart beat and keep things interesting, but overall not great consistency, made plenty of mistakes. It was fun to get back in the Abarth, it has been quite a few months since I've taken it for a spin! One finding though: I've installed the sound mod for Abarth and never driven it ever since and it's so loud I could barely hear anyone on discord if I was hitting the accelerator - if I have missed any message directed at me during the race my apologies.
Oh and Rico: I noticed this was not your night man, you were driving faster than me but somehow I kept seeing showing up behind me. How many times did you go for a picnic in the moat?

Congrats to the podiums, thanks Han for hosting and I will catch you in the next one!
- Ricardo
