AC FWD vs RWD@Bugatti Le Mans, Wed 12th June 2024

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
That was more fun than I expected in the beginning...

I did lots of laps with the GT-cars on the Nords and then I put myself in the MX5 on the Bugatti track. That felt like like an ultra smooth-no-feeling-in-the-car ride at first. But During practice slowly started to connect again. Had a nice few laps in qualy and put me P6 on the grid in a 50/50 mix of Swifts and MX5's.

Had a decent start, killed nobody, was able to overtake some swifts, but got two BMW's flying by who were way quicker from the line, so it seemed. Got me in some nice battles with Andre and a way smarter than me Ernie. And even got to do a couple of laps with Jason 'Drift King' Bagley in the Bimmer, hooking the corners like a full pro rally driver, nice to see. But the smoother lines of the MX5 seemed to be faster trough the corners, so I could keep up with him, or better, catch him again after the straights  . But lap after lap he improved so, he slowly vanished in the distance. Really enjoyable to be able to get involved in real close racing battles and getting better at not killing people  . When he made his pitstop, it put me in P3, doing steady laps. Did my pitstop at the last possible lap, a few mis shifts when trying to get away again, but no big deal. A few not perfect corners here and there during the race, but I kept it on the tarmac this race with a decent pace, proud of that! Finished P6, nice position for me here I think.

I upgraded my pc with more ram (32g) and a 3060 rtx. And ditched an old network switch, that got me from max 100mbps to max 1000mbps. This all resulted in the smoothest running racing I ever had, so I hope I can leave all the glitches, stuttering, freezes and slowing downs behind now.:O_o::geek:

Congrats to the podiums and thanks Han!

Thanks all for racing tonight. It was great fun for me to work myself up through the field.
I could get to 3rd but a drive through penalty put me back at 5. I managed to overtake Jason in the last lap so I finished 4th on the tail of Hank. I hope my overtakes were legal.
Congrats to the podium.

Next week another favorite of mine: Mugello! https://www.overtake.gg/threads/fwd-vs-rwd-mugello-wed-19th-june-2024.273123/
Please sign up as soon as possible.

It was fun this evening. It's always nice to use the round steering wheel. During the race, I drove alone for a long time with no chance of getting to the front, which led to problems with concentration. What quickly made me sweat again was when I saw Jason not far behind me in the BMW and a look at the lap times told me that he now knew how to drive this thing. There were a few exciting last laps, especially when Han came along (2 stops?) who would definitely have overtaken me if there had been another lap to do.

Jason, would you please share the setup here too? I couldn't save it on the server. I would also like to drive the BMW, but I have little idea about setups. Thanks in advance. :)

BMW setup i used for the race for anyone who wants to try it. this track clearly favored the better cornering cars. It was fun to drive but found doing the hour in it hard work and at times very sideways. you really need to be smooth in the car, using a higher gear in places help a lot.

Had a fun race, but finished poorly.
After a typical Suzuki start (i.e. fall to the back of the pack) had fun and managed to find my way to the back of Andre and Rico. That fight was holding me back and seeing Han approaching in the rear view mirror I decided to pit at the first possible chance to attempt the undercut. Unfortunately I was not alone, Andre had the same idea. Fortunately for me I think he didn't pay the bill because the lap after he had to return to the pits again (penalty?).
After this I had a brief moment of focus to put in some nice lap times, until I encountered Rico exiting the pits. Great fighting for a few laps until we found a blue flag that hinder me a bit. Trying to catch-up again I started to overheat (me, not the car) and that lead to mistakes followed by a penalty - which granted me a further warning on pit entry. From that moment until the end I was too hot, too sweaty, completely lost focus, consistency was gone, was running 1+ second slower per lap, just a drag till the end, ugh! :poop:

The track was fun, but clearly lacks some work on the limits in sector 3: you could cut through the fast chicane after the straight, but don't you dare put a wheel out on the last corner! And don't get me started on the pit lane, either I really missed something or there was no way to get in without "cutting" the track. And because you would skip the last corner that would grant you a warning. Every damn time.

It was nice to have a bit more variety, the BMW is very welcome in our rooster!
Nice racing all around, congrats to the podiums and thanks Han for hosting.
See you next week!

So far Monaco and now this track are perfect place for the Suzuki.
No long straight, so the other two cars could not claw back enough time.
Nice to overtake Jason, I fear that is a one off for maybe Han and myself ( I over heard Han say the same) :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
Straight forward race for me with no problems, bit of bashing in the first lap, caused no problems with a car that had really good pace at this circuit. It won't last.

Man, that was a fun drive! :roflmao: I had no real race 'coz I my pace was erratic but I enjoyed the challenge and the few short scraps I had... I went in pretty much like Jon Snow: I knew nothing. Not the track nor the car... I had done a few laps at Brands Hatch Indy (my practice track) just to see if I could hold the E30 through the corners and that went decently well (after a few setup changes to the rear). But no time to try it on Bugatti... my first laps were actually in the practice session of the race itself so I was very glad Andre gave me tips, that helped with getting accquainted with the corners. It also helped me a lot ('coz I'm half deaf) that I could change the sound of the car to something less loud so I could hear you guys on Discord. Thanks for your help chaps. I don't know what's louder that BMW or the Suzuki... :cautious:

But that 325i gave me flashbacks to my old E30 316i... it felt somehow familiar to drive and it gave me a good workout, both physical and mental... I really had to focus, especially at the end when the slicks started to whine (you should try it Bouke!). I think it's a keeper, but I'll be taking that Renault 5 Turbo for a spin as well, I'd like something a bit more speedy through the bends to keep up with you lot, haha! :D

Thank you for the combo Han and congratulations to the winners and podium finishers. Looking forward to Mugello, I love that track!!

Ended up quite enjoying this track layout. I came into it very tired but it actually really helped me out in taking my mind off work stuff and just focusing on staying on the track(mostly).

The beginning was very inconsistent(slow and sometimes off the track) struggling just to get to low 58's since the practice session and then at some point halfway the race i suddenly was in the 57's and then weirdly enough on the 56's. I say weirdly because I cannot pinpoint any drastic change I consciously made that would explain the sudden gain of pace.

I did not really get to race anyone closely(apart from annoying Han for a few corners) due to being always on very different pace with the ppl close by or far from the ones with the same pace. I failed my pitspot and had to reverse back to it making some 10 secs longer than it should have been. Also got a drive through penalty from entering the pitlane. We should return here when the track limits get fixed. On the other hand, maybe it was this that made me get more relaxed and focused.

I mentioned this in the chat but I ask here again: Did anyone else had an issue with the missing engine sounds of the other MX5's? I heard my own engine and the horrible buzzing engines from the suzukis and bmws just not from the other mx5's - and this was from inside my own car and also if I would camera follow someone else with a mx5. I could hear the screeching tyres and kerbs but no engine sound.

Congrats to the podiums and special congrats to those who managed to tame the bmw(if even Jason says it was somewhat tricky to tame, I'll leave it for later, much later).

Thanks for the organization and to all who joined in for the nice racing and see you at the nice Mugello next week!

You could install a Data Aquisition software like Motec I2 which would show you very clearly where you gain time.

I myself am very "mechanically gifted' so NOT PC SAVY at all, but managed to work myself into it.

The ACTI software that records the data is a bear to set up, but with loads of patient help from forumists here @Kek700 @RasmusP I finally managed.

I even think on unknown tracks it saves some time because I can see my lines and find better ones with less trial and error.

Thanks everyone, another good night, I enjoyed the track and got a good start managing to avoid the cars that initially spun out and even made up a few places. Unfortunately then disaster struck and running down into the sharp right hander side by side with one of the BMWs we touched and I spun out putting me back into 13th where I then stayed playing catch up.
Even so I had a good night and it was good to see the choice of cars growing (I had a practice through the week in the BMW).
My Simsonn Pro pedals have finally arrived from China after being held up in customs for ages so will hopefully have them working for next week all being well and will see if they make any difference.
Hope you all have a good week and see you next Wednesday for more fun.

I didn't notice any problems.

I managed to dig out a picture. Long gone for real... but not the many fun memories. :coffee:
