Yes, top 6 made a lot of sense back in the day when it wasn't an uncommon occurrence to have half the field DNF - restricting points to the top 6 would have helped avoid the impression of drivers/teams getting points "just for finishing" (though I'm sure that still happened on occasion).let's face it - if it was the top 6 Marussia would never score points in F1
if the cars were more prone to failure, perhaps top 6 is better. But right now, nah
indeed - Nurburgring 99 is an example, where Minardi scored a point, had Badoer running in 4th too before he had a failure (and cried too) that promoted his teammate Gene to get 1 point.(though I'm sure that still happened on occasion)
