AC Fat-Alfie Championship Round 4@Deutschlandring, Wed 30th October 2024

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Oh crap! My gearbox broke 10 minutes before the end. I didn't think that could happen. I recently lost the damage report. Does anyone know where to turn this on and off? I couldn't see it getting redder and redder. Should have slowed down a bit. Well, it happens, just like in real life. Congratulations to Han!

Wow! How can that happen with only 10% damage enabled?

I didn't use the brake pedal today. :roflmao:

No, just kidding, I'm surprised too.

I found out where the damage report was:

I then pulled it back with the mouse:

Sorry I couldn't make it last night but I was babysitting!

Looking at the results I can see quali and the race had some really high ping values across the field. I'm trying to track down my own ping issues so just wonder if it impacted the race and do people know the cause?

I believe Jose had connection problems, otherwise I haven't heard anyone complaining.

Great race! Very nice and with a surprising result! Qualified 4th, but I knew I could get Bouke and Thomas in their Mazdas before the first braking zone. However, I didn't expect Allan to take the lead from behind. So the first lap it was Allan, Hank and me in 3rd place. On the start/finish section I was able to slipstream Hank and overtake him and close the gap to Allan. In one of the corners there was a small gap on the inside, but Allan slammed the door and I had to correct quickly, which caused my car to become unbalanced and I ended up on the fence. Hank, Ernie and Kimi passed me, but on the start/finish section I was able to overtake them both. Hank managed to pass Allan and started his incredible lap times. I was able to close the gap to Allan and when he made a small mistake I became 2nd. With free air in front of me I decided to pit late and managed to keep the gap of about 4 seconds to Ernie. Later he apparently had an incident when the gap went to 12 seconds. A lot happened behind me, but I never got into trouble again. With three laps to go Hank suddenly found himself in the pits and never returned to the track. I felt sorry for him :((or not;) ?). So a pleasant surprise for me to win the 4th round.

Impressive race from all of you, looking at the results. This circuit is so difficult that a mistake is easily made. Bouke in particular had a great pace in his Mazda and Fred showed that he has the potential to enter the midfield very quickly. Congrats to Paul and Bouke for the podium.

I hope everyone enjoyed themselves tonight. In two weeks we go to my personal favorite the Feldbergring. Next week I have another great circuit that is new to us.

Yes, well done Han on the win. It was interesting that Hank had a mechanical failure and that he admits he drove it hard through the hairpins. Maybe that was the reason for 1) his exceptional pace and 2) the eventual failure of the gearbox. ( I only took the first hairpin in 2nd gear).
Even with 10% damage I have had steering damage in the past that resulted in retirement so it seems if the damage is serious enough then failure will happen. I know Crew Chief Jim has warned me before in the Suzuki that the engine is sounding rough (yes,,I know it does:p) but also he tells me to go easy otherwise it won't make the finish , so as John said above, it must be accumulative in that every over rev adds up to a failure.

I might also add that I may have overdone the engine braking a bit.
Ok. Allan suggested to set the damage to zero but reading this I'll leave the damage at 10% as I think that taking care of your car and clean racing should be rewarded. Recently I've been victim myself of damage in events I made a lot of mistakes with hitting things. I have to learn from that experience. Abuse of your car or driving like it's a bumper car should be discouraged imo. And you can configure the pitstop strategy to repair damage.

Simple race for me, one mistake was my downfall. But in the end i was not alone in that, admittedly mine was self induced. Tried to hard to catch Han, so a lesson learnt there, don't push the impossible.
Never knew you could blow a Abarth gearbox. that is a first Hank!!!!
Could not catch Han, could not catch Boukah, could not catch Paul, but every cloud has a silver lining, i could catch Allan. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
For a circuit that i find difficult , i can live with a fourth place, in the end lucky to get that.

Get well soon Jason.......

I agree Han, there has to be some jeopardy with regards to damage as otherwise you could bounce off everything like a bowling ball and still win. It has been suggested that the damage % be lowered but as you say, that is likely to put people off who practice for ages only to be taken out in T1 and sustain damage that is not their fault. I know it happens in real life and that some platforms run 100% damage, but I think we have it about right here.
We could experiment with a reduction, say 20% damage to see what effect it has....would it make people drive a bit more careful and avoid contact????.........................but otherwise you have a good formula so why change it.

@HF2000 i only mentioned 0% damage on the last track Fonteny,as the Renault will screech its nuts off around 3/4 of the lap...Or enable Hards to compensate for easing off the throttle which will then bring the Mazda into the action more..The Abarth will be long gone to do anything..
