F1 | Red Bull Marko: Good Idea to Give (Red Bull) Drivers Coronavirus

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has recently aired a somewhat controversial view (for a change) - suggesting he would like to deliberately infect the Red Bull stable of drivers with Coronavirus...

Yup, believe it or not the somewhat abrasive Helmut Marko can come out with even more ridiculous ideas than usual given enough free time to think about things, on this occasion suggesting to Red Bull top brass the idea of creating a 'Coronavirus Camp' for the Red Bull stable of drivers. Rather than being a dramatic and bizarre way of punishing his squad for not yet winning a World Championship, Marko believes getting the virus early, in order to develop a level of immunity for when the racing season begins, is a good idea... apparently the Red Bull management don't agree...

“We have four Formula 1 drivers, and eight or 10 juniors" said the 76-year-old former Grand Prix driver.
“The idea was to organise a camp where we could bridge this mentally and physically somewhat dead time. And that would be the ideal time for the infection to come. “These are all strong young men in really good health. That way they would be prepared whenever the action starts. And you can be ready for what will probably be a very tough championship once it starts.”
“Let’s put it this way: it has not been well received”
I think it probably fair to call this one out as the most controversial comment of the unexpected off season so far - but do you agree or disagree with the grumpy Mr. Marko? Let us know in the comments section below!

Well, to be fair, it's not a new idea. Anybody remember chickenpox parties?
Basically, the general idea is to get it while you're young and healthy, acquire immunity and then get on with your life.

The problem of course being that you have no way of predicting whether someone is going to have an adverse reaction.
Which in the case of CoVid19 might be lethal.
Not sure I'd want to race badly enough to willingly risk that particular outcome. :D

I think the Joke was off coulour. Helmut Marko is famous for saying things like this. That is why the Media ignore him. Sky TV always talk to the same people Gunther Stiner of the series Drive to Survive. Zack Brown of McLaren and The Racing point guy who i cant think of the name of. I wish we could hear more from other people on teams. And not just some celebretey on the grid walk. Its like talking to Bernie with his short blunt responses.

Not clickbait but wrong title. Marko said in the downtime he wanted the pilots to be in a camp to interact together and not feel alone from the team in the downtime due to the virus. The issue is that he's ignoring WHY the downtime exists to begin with.

In the day and age we live in, it would be "bad for business" if one or more of them actually died lol.

That said, he is invoking the survival of the fittest, a universal law which most people seem to forget. It is real, people will die - dying is part of life.

Someone talked already about the benefits of "herd immunity" ... and then he declared the quarantine!
I wouldn't wish anyone to get pneumonia with covid-19. There's people going to ICU, intubated, after sudden respiratory issues, no matter the age and underlying pathologies. Better not to risk.
Money talks...
