British game developers Codemasters have confirmed the very popular Formula One 2016 game will be releasing on Mac this April 6th, courtesy of an arrangement with Ferel Interactive.

Already available on multiple gaming platforms including Linux and mobile devices, Codemasters have once again utilised the resources of fellow British games company Ferel Interactive to bring their most complete Formula One game to date to a brand new platform. With Ferel specialising in bringing games to Linux and Mac, the "new" game should be released with minimal issues following the PC and console release having received several patches post it's August 2016 release date.

To accompany the Mac release announcement Codemasters have created this short release trailer that you can watch below:

do they even have a demand for this game on MAC? and almost a year later?

researching, this is the first F1 game to hit mac, at least since 2010 - not sure about 2013 because it's not listed on steam store anymore.

maybe they're testing the waters and/or the engine updates to release F1 2017 on mac too.

Lol, will we have to rebuy the game?

If you buy AC for pc and for PS4 you pay for both. They are "different games". Implies work, development, time, efforts and money. Nobody tells you to buy both. I don't have AC for PS4 even though I got a PS4.

And I don't have any of the F1 versions, but I understand that if you buy one or another you pay for it. Thing apart will be getting discounts, which would be nice. But...you know...

What I don't understand is releasing a game from last year when the new season has even started. No sense for me, but who am I??

Why not....i'd rather see games being devved for pc anc mac than pc and console.

Yeah I don't see why not. Why it's taken this long I don't know but it's an interesting development nonetheless.

I'm not saying they would buy it, but in my office every one of my colleagues owns a Mac at home. I'm the only one who owns a gaming laptop PC (or a PC if you prefer). So if the market demands it and people want it, then why not?

Interesting the comment about Bootcamp. I know of someone that had an issue with this gaming PC and used his iMac instead with Bootcamp for a few races on AMS. He said the game ran smoother on the iMac than his gaming PC (which in theory is much faster) so they do come in useful! ;)

Feral does a fantastic job optimizing games to run on a Mac. The reason it takes so long to get a game from a PC to a Mac is because there are only a few companies that are able to port games to Mac and make them work well enough to sell. Feral has a huge backlog of games to port, which I'd guess is the reason for the delay.

I can second that. Feral is doing a great job. The main problem of the mac is the lack of FFB drivers. There is a driver for G27 but Fanatec or Thurstmaster? Nothing!
I once contacted Fanatec for dev-info to do a mac driver for their CSW v1 but never got any response. (I'm a mac developer since 15 years).
So while Feral is really doing a great job, the main problem is that there is no proper wheel support.

Although I'm not a fan of Codemasters F1 Series, I will buy F1 2016 just to see Metal in action … I'm just not sure if I buy it via MAS or Steam.

I've always bought via Steam simply for the fact that you get both a Mac Key and a PC key for the majority of releases.
