ACC Endurance Series Round 5 @ Zandvoort - Mon 27th February 2023

Assetto Corsa Competizione Racing Club event
You were in my mirror during many laps and you were really really consistent, which put pressure on me  and then I wanted to leave space to Sebastalona as he was fast as a rocketship, but I made a little mistake, you overtook me, and then I couldn't follow you as you still were consistent and I started struggling with tyres  Well played mate :)
Thanks. I backed off a couple times to let the front runners through and so we both got a breather :) We’re very similar on pace, so you would have been difficult to pass on this track.

Not a great track for racing, but a great track to drive. I think Hungaroring is the only similar one in which the car is absolutely dancing for 80% of the lap. So satisfying when the car is on the nose and controlling rotation with the brake.

Good qualifying, matched my best practice time, Chris pulled an absolute rabbit out the hat, amazing time.

Nice clean start, and into P2 by the end of the lap. Kept Chris honest for a while but no openings presented themselves for an overtake attempt.

With a difficult pit entry, and the Silverstone debacle still fresh in my mind, took my pit stop nice and steady. By the time the pit stops were done, Chris was 6 seconds up the road. With a nice gap behind, it was just a case of bringing it home.

I know people must be frustrated about the start, but these things happen in real life too. 1 iffy start in 5 races is still decent going. Zandvoort is a difficult, narrow track at the best of times, let alone when you are door to door with folk, or no option to avoid incidents.

My Race Report

Practice and quali went well, started on row 2 on the inside.

Race start was ok until on the exit a slight nudge from second place slammed me off the track, I tried to slow it down and rejoin safely but the grass had 0 grip, causing my car to not be able to take the right hander on the grass, straight across and took someone out.

Sorry to whoever it was, I waited in a safe place and rejoined in last. I watched the replay back afterwards and not a lot anyone could do to avoid that without just not racing at the start which obviously is never going to happen. Noone was taking chances that werent there its just the downside of the physics with side to side contact and the narrow track.

Raced back through the field to 5th as everyone pitted, a couple of quick laps saw me rejoin in 4th after my late pitstop just under 40 minutes into the race. From there it was a cruise to the end. Not the race I wanted but its just how it goes sometimes.

My race report.

Lots of practice and setup time for this one once more. I knew the track, but had only lapped it once on an open lobby.

Quali was good, best I could do, Chris pulled an amazing lap out of the bag!

The start was hard to judge. I feel like I need to practice these starts, I am always braking too early. Robert got up next to me and what followed was unfortunate. I feel like Chris already said what needed to be said about it.
Until turn 11 braking zone, I had Andrew behind and Chris in front and I missed my marker. Lucky I didn't hit any of them, sorry about that guys.
Then those two had unbelievable pace, and due to the incidents behind I just settled in and did my own race.

From lap 2 forward, I had the best race I have ever had. No major mistakes and very good consistency. Very happy with my pace, only dropping into the 37s by the end of each stint or when lapping.

Sorry to Carlos in the Ferrari. I was coming out of the pits with low tire pressure, so after lapping you, I had a few hairy moments and might have messed up your lap more than I should.

Unfortunate race for a few I was hoping to race against.

Congrats to my podium mates!
On to the next one!

Yea, unfortunately that was me. Cheers for waiting but my steering was screwed and cornering was barely possible. It was a waste of your time letting me by for you to just cruise by within a few corners lol

Being only lap 1 I didn’t pit just so I can work out my pace but it was terrible so I had to pit at the end of lap 2, was a long minute and inevitably got lapped exiting the pits. At that point it was an internal battle to not quit out (dead last and 1 lap down)

Was mainly frustration at the last few races ending the same for me

Was disappointed not finishing the race, albeit last place I like to finish each week, towards the end of my second stint I clipped the same kerb two consecutive laps and on the second caught airtime and hit the wall, steering completely shot, would not turn at all. So “return to garage” as I was parked in a dangerous position at the hairpin turn 4. Watched you guys for the remaining 15 minutes. Plus Side I got my fastest personal best lap time on this circuit. My consistency was poor here, that I need to work on each week. Well done everyone! Good job. Chris had a blinder.

Not much too tell about this race. I arrived late for qualify and couldn't manage to place a lap, so I started last. With the mess on first lap I went to P7, had a couple of laps fighting Christopher then slightly hit him on turn 10, waited and got past by 2 BMW's. In turn 13 I got touched, hit the rails and got 68 seconds damage. Went to box for repairs and from there I raced alone for the whole race. Maybe next will be better.

I never raced the Ferrari before, but I actually liked it, however I still need to understand better the car so I can take the most of it. For the moment I'm still slow with it.

Hi, I think I'm the one with who you had an accident in T13/T14. I saw you really near in my mirror, as we were battling for a little moment, and I wanted to let you pass me as I went on grass in T13 and lost some speed, so I didn't want to slow you down or block you. But when I went on a side of the track, I put the car a little bit too much on the side (one or two wheels on grass again), which made me oversteer the other way and you hit me while overtaking (had light damage on right). I'm sorry for this, I just lost the control of the car while letting you pass me, and I know you couldn't avoid me as it happened really fast. I will watch the replay this evening to be sure, but this is what I remember.

Sorry if I was the one to ruin your race

Mate, no worries at all, this happens and I had the feeling you couldn't avoid that either, just normal race things.

After the disappointment of my mistake at Laguna Seca I was hoping to come back stronger this race and the Bentley beast delivered! Qualifying went really well pulling out a new PB and grabbing pole which I wasn't expecting given the strength of some guys I'd seen during practice in the week. Just about kept the lead into turn 1 and got my head down. A few mistakes saw Andrew sat within a second and looking to pounce for a few laps until the rhythm came to me and I started to pull a gap. Nailed the pit stop and did well in traffic so that saw me to the flag.

A massive shame a lot were caught up in the first lap crash, hoping Kyalami will bring more luck!
