AC DRM Revival Marod Aero @ Road America - Mon 11 May 2020

Assetto Corsa Racing Club event
Unexpected result of low aero setup without double checking the gears: engine dies half way through the race ;-)

Thanks for the nice races everyone. And Eric and Ronnie, you guys were wicked fast :coffee:
Oops!
It's so unusual to be able to keep you in sight for a whole lap Chris - a new experience for me! (Peering through the clouds of dust to see you :p:D)
Nice choice of combo @Denis Betty !! What a workout...

Thanks.

Because I host on Mondays and new mods often appear at the weekend, I got the chance to be first to run this version of the track. It's much more narrow than the other version and claimed to be more accurate (and I believe those claims). I loved it straight away, so when I stumbled across the free download of the car... it seemed like fate. Easy choice for me. :inlove:

In other news, I was sat on the grid for R1 giving a big long pep talk about the Golden Rule and not rejoining the track in front of others but myTeamspeak had crashed. I had no Idea, so very sorry for that. Then I caused a pile up in T1 while I was distracted with something - forgot about cold brakes. Even more sorry about that.

Anyway, I'm just really pleased that so many of you seemed to enjoy the event. Thank you all for racing, I thought it was great fun. Hope to see you all for the Escort at Vallelunga next week.

Cheers

Thanks for a great combo @Denis Betty :)
Car is crazy to drive but so rewarding when you get it right. Would be even better if AC didn't decide to crash on me when I'm for once leading on the final lap. Well done Ronnie and Ross, wish we could have had some closer racing.
Aw Erik that's pretty awful mate. Just remember that most of us will probably never win a race against fast guys like Ross and Ronnie. I'm pretty sure that you're gonna win a few. :)

Thanks Denis and congrats to all survivors. Apologies to the driver of the white car which I hit in R1 going into T2 after the start. Really tried to be careful but forgot about the non-existing brakes when cold :(

@Steve O'Malley that actually can happen? I went with 100% for the entire second race without any problems. Interesting to know

I've never felt comfortable in AC, but tonight was an improvement. Thanks to John for his advice earlier!

I was using a high wing setup initially, (2-9) and started 3rd on the grid. Got to the tight 90 degree left at the end of the back straight and felt like i got a tap on the back end that sent me round. No-one was close, so must've just been cold tyres and no talent. Got tagged while trying to rejoin so was close to last by this point. Accidentally tapped someone round later, so apologies for that, rejoined behind them and set about moving up as cleanly as possible. Ended 4th.

Race 2; got a sneaky reverse-grid 2nd, dumped the clutch and pulled away for a bit, this time with wings at 1-5, and was around 1s a lap faster as a result! Surprisingly kept pace with Ronnie behind, only losing a few tenths here and there, but had enough of a gap to hold on to first place.
That was my first win in Assetto Corsa!!!!!:roflmao:

Love the DRM mod, in rFactor it was my favourite ever group of cars, and although AC made them look amazing, they just never felt as good. It's getting close for me, but at least now the FFB is good enough to enjoy competitive driving. Look forward to more DRM soon!

Cheers Denis!

forgot about cold brakes
Yeah, quite extreme in this car. It occurred to me during practice that this might have made it an ideal candidate for a warm-up lap in AC (if such a thing existed) but then I realised that the damn brakes cool down so quickly, a normal grid formation would put them right back where they started, LOL :D
Cruising in 12th and engine failed. Was only running turbo at 90%. Gutted.
Wow, that's a bummer. If you have the replay, you may be able to satisfy yourself that it was over-revving on the downshifts as Denis suggests. I can't recall doing it myself during the race but I reckon the car is old enough to not have any kind of downshift protection so trashing it this way is pretty likely. (However, you should have been seeing the damage indicator flash up each time, unless somehow it's turned off entirely?)
