Codemasters have released their first DiRT 4 Dev Diary blog post, revealing details of the different kinds of packages available on launch day and a very interesting 'Your Stage' introduction video.

With release day looming large through the windscreen Codemasters have revealed a few more details about what players will have to looking forward to in June. The game will launch in a number of formats depending on platform and package choice, as can be read below:

"First up, we’re so happy to tell you there will be a Day One Edition of DiRT® 4™ which will feature an exclusive Hyundai R5 rally car as well as a unique event*, livery, and Founder Icon. There will also be a Special Edition for retail that will feature the Day One content – PLUS a Team Booster Pack that give you a unique team offer, staff and facilities bonuses. There will also be an additional Steelbook option (retailers TBC), which will include the Special Edition content with a limited edition steel box" said Codemasters in the latest roadbook post.

Now this Hyundai R5 rally car mentioned above interests me a great deal indeed. We know due to licencing restrictions Codemasters are unable to produce modern specification WRC cars, and the R5 series is expected to be the top level rally class in game. So which Hyundai are they proposing to add to DiRT 4? From 2000 to 2003 we had different versions of the Accent and later the i20 during 2014 - 2016, replaced this year under the new regulations with the i20 Coupe, complete with new for 2017 aggressive styling as has become the norm in the World Rally Championship of late.

So does this mean we might get a nice 2016 spec WRC car, or are we going to get either a fantasy entry or the older, and in my mind still rather attractive, Accent from the early 00's? That will be an interesting one to see play out in the coming months.

In other related news the British developers have released an interesting four minute video featuring Double FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg and WRC driver Kris Meeke explaining the new for DiRT 4 feature 'Your Stage'. Allowing players to generate near endless custom stage designs, Your Stage is a revolutionary step for modern rally games and if implemented as well as is hoped it should provide a very welcome addition to the new title.

Paul Coleman, DiRT 4’s Chief Game Designer, commented: “Your Stage is something that we have been working on since the launch of DiRT 3 in 2011. It allows players to generate an almost infinite variety of stages at all of the rally locations in DiRT 4. It’s a revelation as now our players will get the thrill of driving a new stage whenever they want.”

“It is extremely simple for you to create a stage but, behind the scenes, we have an extraordinarily complex series of rules and algorithms that put these routes together. Your Stage creates such a huge variety of routes, some that we would never have thought of crafting before, and they’re amazing to drive.”

As a big fan of the last DiRT Rally game I must admit I was rather sceptical of what DiRT 4 would turn out to be. With all the information released so far, promises of even more realism that DR and the new Your Stage to name but a few, it actually looks like DiRT 4 could well be a very solid entry into the rally sim racing marketplace when it launches this summer.

Paul Coleman recently ran a substantial Q&A session with fans of the game. You can catch up on our summary article HERE.

DiRT 4 will be available to purchase for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in June 2017.

Check out the DiRT 4 sub forum here at RaceDepartment to keep abreast of all the latest news and discussions around the newest rally game to be produced by Codemasters. We will have all the latest news when it becomes available and of course offer up a place for fans to discuss the game and share in our combined excitement for this new Codemasters title.

Do you like the sound of the new features for DiRT 4? Are you looking forward to the game? Do you think DiRT 4 will be a suitable improvement over the popular DiRT Rally? Let us know in the comments section below!

Another marketing trick by codemasters.nothing new on the content or any serious info about the title.they are trying so desperate to sell us this new stage thing that it really pisses me of.Pls guys tell us something new.also this exclusive content marketing is a thing of the past that really fulled me when i was 15 not any more.really so us your content your car list or all the other features that you inproved DR.I ve said it before and im going to say it again.you could of done this in DR with 3,4 updates and dlc packages.instead you said why not make some more millions.

well, aren't they bussiness people at the end of the day? for some on the forum here, earning money seems to be akin to spreading a fatal disease knowingly. what's wrong with it? we BUY games developed by people who - surprise - earn money by doing so. Should i be mad at the greengrocer's because the fruit which i am too dumb / lazy to grow myself cost money when i buy them at his shop? weird.

Codemasters release a marketing video and amazingly some people actually feel the need to tell us that it's a marketing video, where would we be without them ? Happier and in a generally nicer place obviously but hey feel free to tell everyone this is a forum post if it makes you feel impotent (sic) :)

Yes it indeed is marketing but there is new footage of something that I'm looking forward to. Screw me for that I guess.
Good for you if you managed to notice something of value in that video. Might as well mention what that actually is.

Your mindset is obviously "if it's not exactly what I want it's ****"
Neither of the titles I mentioned is exactly what I want. Heck, I can't remember anything that is "exactly what I want". So, instead of discussing and speculating on inner workings of random people on the Internet, can we go back to what's this forum allegedly is about?

so you can basically drop this game of your radar. It's Dirt Rally with some tweaks to the physics, fleshed out career, new content and a stage generator.
Though there is a much higher probability you might be right on that one, I still have the hope that it won't be just "some tweaks".

So, if you are a businessman, it's ok to spew lies? I don't mind paying for good sims. I've spend quite a lot on them during all the years. What I do mind, however, is being deceived to get the money from me.
Dirt Rally was such a deceit, Dirt 4 seems getting dangerously close to being one too.

Some people seem to have problems reading, I see. I didn't simply state the fact that it's a marketing video, if you missed that.

What lies are they spewing? Just because YOU don't think it's a good product doesn't make anything a lie.

It's a company after all. Before DR they had big financial trouble after years of lackluster games. DR sold more than expected and gave them really good press in general, but it didn't sell enough to keep the company a float for years. DLC for Dirt Rally would not change that.

Was there nothing about DR that you liked?

Please read that line again carefully. From what the person above said, one could come to the conclusion that everything goes for a businessman. And many business practitioners seem to agree that as long as you can talk a customer into buying the product, it doesn't matter whether your words contain even a grain of truth or not.

I'm not accusing Codemasters of lying about Dirt 4... yet. But the current situation looks worrying to me.

And here we go again...

I bet they wouldn't want to switch places with me with all their "financial troubles". It's useless to expect pity from me after I bought into their advertisement campaign and ended up with something unusable.
Yet I still think this time around they could come up with something resembling a sim, after all. That's why I'm here.

Was there nothing about DR that you liked?
Maybe the sounds... Either way, I removed the thing from my hard drive a long time ago and regret buying it.

Why was it unusable? Please elaborate on that.

If you think of DR as unusable I bet you won't be happy with D4. It's builds upon what DR was. It won't be something completely new or different.

Because the physics made very little sense to me. And I'm not even talking about tarmac, I have other sims to fill that gap.
The weight, the inertia, the suspension... it just doesn't feel like a car at all. What's with those handbrake turns? How can one possibly call DR a realistic sim is completely beyond me. Not that RBR is perfect, but... at least it does make sense most of the time.

Is that a speculation or you can point me out to a particular link/quote? If D4 is indeed just a souped up DR, I'm as good as gone from D4 threads.

DR has it's problems but vanilla RBR isn't making any more sense, that's for sure. When was the last time you played DR?

Having competed with RWD cars in the past, DR is the best representation of a RWD car on proper competition tires that dig in to the loose surface I've come across so far. Is it perfect? Not at all.

I believe there aresome good info here below if you care to listen through it. There's tons of questions and answers on the official forum as well.

Well, there is NGP, after all. Still not perfect though.
I reinstalled DR somewhere around the beginning of this year. Thought that maybe this time around I'd like it, but... It's just weird. I can't bring myself to liking it. Even though it would be only pluses for me if I could.

Well, that M3 with the mod didn't look too bad under acceleration, but still not enough to justify leaving the game on my disk drive.

Thanks, I will see what I'll be able to find there.

Edit: Well, in the interview there's a lot of improvements promised, if not an outright new game. At least it still leaves me inclined to try the result out to see if it will really make a difference. This might be one of those cases where 2 hours is not enough to test it thoroughly...
