I was just wondering the exact same thing, its like a pump or motor noise that activates for a few seconds on acceleration through the gears and then under braking through the gears, I've heard the same thing on the Audi R8 LMS on Assetto Corsa as well and always wondered what it is..

It would irritate me so much if it can be heard inside the helmet, I couldn't put up with that for a race distance.

Same sound on the No.44 Audi as well just not as loud as the Ford's.
I think the noise is the hydraulic pump for the gearbox.
Sounds a bit like the DRS activation noise on the DTM cars in raceroom
Am riding on board with the Audi for a bit. Sounds pretty good (not as good as Porsche obviously). Will need to go drive that car soon as I haven't spent much time with it.

Yup thats what it is, I've just read it in the Assetto Corsa thread, it's mentioned in one of the Audioloids sound mod threads as the hydraulic pump sound was added to the Audi, I think the sound is also on the Lamborghini Hurrican as well as it shares the same engine and gearbox as the Audi I think...someone correct if I am wrong.
Its the noise from the sand pump, everytime they change sandbagging settings you hear that sound

Finished work at midnight. Got home and made myself a nice hot drink and settled down to watch some Rolex 24.
