Australia & New Zealand

Gunthar, please discuss any mods with RD Staff before organising any events using them. We have to be veeeery careful about what goes into the Server.

I would of course have my mod tested by all RD Admins etc first and go through the red tape so to speak...

Re the Trial Events, you don't have to make them the same as the Sunday event.
Why not just pick a default track and two sprint races for the next one. Two enduro's is too much, I agree with that. A default track fits the training concept better anyway.

Only reason was to keep it easy for training and running of the server, but ok I'll look at the stock tracks for sure...

I got my STCC free also because I pre purchased GTR Evolution. *woohoo for the freebies*

I used to play the V8 Challenge from EA Sports which was based on the STCC2 game on the same engine. V8 Challenge included 4 Aussie tracks and 5 STCC tracks, 3 of which are in Race 07 being Ring Knutstorp, Gelleråsen Karlskoga and Mantorp Park. I often used to like these over the Aussie tracks ... to now be able to drive all these other cars on them and even more is just how awesome simracing has become.

Melbourne Enduro Feedback

First, congratulations! In my opinion the race was well driven by all who entered. I thought that the superpole was brilliant providing more anticipation with a whole lot less frustration.

Second, despite a couple of errors, the formation lap went well and it was the cleanest start I have seen for ages. Well done, Oceanians!

My personal feedback: I really think that the longer race was excellent, providing everyone with the opportunity to strategise and drive for longer without having to make high risk passes as we see in sprint races. I would like to see more races of this type. Perhaps not full enduros but perhaps combining the normal 2 sprints into one main race of between 25-30 laps with a compulsary pit.

What do you all think? 2/3 races using this format per month, 1/3 races using the standard sprint format that we have been using for the past forever?

Post your thoughts and feedback!

The enduro was fun for something different... but these kinds of races are ultimately boring, I think, with spread out fields and few battles. The sprint races have far more exciting action in them. So if anything, Id rather see the normal sprint races with a few enduros like Melbourne thrown into the mix.

Once you start to throw in compulsory pits, you get spread fields with lonely racing in my experience.

The quali and rolling start worked really well.

I definitely think we should use the superpole more often. As I said in the event thread, it allows you to concentrate on your lap without having to worry about where the other drivers are on track. The only thing negative that I can find about the enduros is that, when your tyres are worn, the car becomes difficult to drive, and you can become a danger to others on the track if you don't know how to respond. I know for a fact that I came terribly close to ruining others' races because my own car wasn't very co-operative with my input. You don't get that sort of problem with sprint races.
I still like the enduro idea a lot. Maybe we could have one or two long races at set intervals in a "season," like with the V8 Supercars. The rest could be sprint races. Or, there could be a few special events where there would be a "Sprint Race" and a "Feature Race," like with A1GP. They've done that once or twice with the European races here. Two servers could be set up, one with maybe 10 laps, the other with 25, or something like that. Once the sprint event is finished, we move to the feature event.

Just my two cents.

I actually liked the enduro. For the first half of the race (until the pitstop drama) I had a nose to tail battle with Hansi for something like 20 laps, so enduro's don't necessarily mean a lonely race. Yes, tyre wear can become an issue vs sprint races, but that brings in different driving skills and strategy. It's not just a matter of thrashing the life out of the car for a few laps, you actually have to be ultra smoth and learn to drive on worn tyres, something new and different. And for once we didn't get all the bash and barge that we have been experiencing.
The superpole and parade lap was a huge success in my view, but I wouldn't suggest we do that all the time, especially for sprint races.

I believe we should add some variety and include enduros on a regular basis, mixed among the sprint format.

The enduro was fun and it was something different. I think it can be interesting or it can sometimes be boring, its just the luck of the draw. I spent most of my race alone and I was just concentrating on my lap times the whole race. Still, it was a nice change and it was interesting to see how different stategies(spell-check) paid off.

I wouldn't like to do one every week. Maybe 1 a month or something like that. Same with superpole (I usually use prac and qual to learn the track and figure out my setup).

Been avoiding this thread a bit because its not aimed at me but first apologies for my poor form the other day. Was early morning and the d/c really got my goat, so first thanks for the event. Hopefully join you again sometime and race you guys instead of MH. :)

Secondly, on the enduro front almost all the races i take part in here in the EU aone events are Enduro/Mini-Enduro. The tyres wearing is an issue but only for the first few as it doesnt take long before you get used to settling into a rythm and sticking with it as opposed to racing every car you see all of the time like you might in a sprint race. Tyre conservation and consistency is paramount for me because it pays later, especially if you 1-stop it. Also people who dont have the time over a lap can still come in to play at the end due to different stragtegies, so it benefits everyone.

From what I read of the reports seems a few people had lonely races, but that seems to be less of an issue on EU events where people regularly race enduros, aliens aside most people seem to gt set in a groove and play the long game. This usually ends up with smallish packs of 5-6 cars who race each other over long periods of time with no fear of it getting cut short by the finishing line.

Obviously I love enduros as you can probably tell but the main reason I posted is to say try a few more in the near future and see how the develop differently as people adjust to it before making a firm decision. You might find you love it, or you might not but thats life eh?

Hopefully race soon,
Dave

Maybe every once and a while as others have said. Also, WTCC might not be the best class for this type of event, GT-P/S/C is more like the class...

I think that the Sprint 9-14 laps depending on track and car class give the best overall racing for all in the field... You could add in some more comp pit stops tho as this changes things up :)

FWIW, the Euro guys have been running Enduro's in MINI's every friday night, and it is proving to be one of the most popular and successful events in the Racedepartment calendar. It can work for any class if people want it to.
