Assetto Corsa v1.6 & JDM Car Pack Released

Assetto Corsa has today updated to version 1.6 bringing a host of new features alongside pre-Alpha Virtual Reality support and the Japanese DLC Car Pack.


Backed by a sizable changelog perhaps the hot topic of today's new update is the surprise inclusion of the pre-alpha support for Virtual Reality headsets, a move inspired by the recent Kunos community questionnaire asking what features community members wish to see included in the title.

Other notable additions in the latest update includes the new addition of 4 wheel steering courtesy of the Nissan Skyline and Mazda RX7 as well as a work in progress All-Wheel-Drive transmission code.

As well as today's update, Assetto Corsa fans can now purchase the much anticipated Japanese Car Pack which features 7 new Japanese vehicles including the Mazda MX-5 Cup racing car and Nissan GT-R R34 Skyline V-Spec.

Important Notes

How to Use the Oculus CV1 in Assetto Corsa:
Assetto Corsa includes the first pre-alpha support for Oculus for in-game sessions. Run Oculus Home, select “settings”, “general” and enable “Unknown sources”. Then, launch Assetto Corsa: using the launcher, in options/video/display select “Oculus WIP support” as rendering mode. Then, set your favourite driving session, click the start button and put on your Oculus. Once the session is loaded, you can use the mouse pointer to navigate the in-game menu and use and set the apps as you like.

Using Oculus with Microsoft Xbox-One Pad/Steering Wheel:
Regardless of the controller you use with Assetto Corsa, in this version you need a mouse/keyboard to control the GUI and access the ESC menu.

Sounds:
By default, Assetto Corsa does not yet feature sounds through the Oculus headset. To use it, you need to enable the Rift headset in your Windows settings. To do it, right click on the speaker icon (you can find the icon in the bottom-right of your Windows desktop) and set Rift headset as default playing device.

Driver position:
Press CTRL+SPACE to reset the driver position using the Oculus. Using other driving devices, you can reset the driver position pressing look left + look right commands at the same time.

Exposure:
You can reduce/increase the brightness pressing PgUp/PgDn.

has anyone been able to get refunds from Kunos? I'm very disappointed in the fact I wasted 5 bucks on this pack.....none of the cars are fun to drive, and to boot they have too much damn grip....+ all the servers have too many assists making multiplayer a big bore.
Try changing track surface settings to dusty and pick one of those crazy Supras, crank the boost and then come here again and complain about too much grip lol :D

Dumbest thing I've read today, and I have been to yahoo answers already, so you know this is pretty bad. By the way, most cars have Semislicks by default and usually tracks have 100% grip by default, first change those things and then please stop posting on this forum ever.

To everyone else: does it bother anyone that Semislicks are default? I find it strange, really feel like Kunos should reverse this. Make default to whatever car gets from the factory.

Sorta, but kinda not really... It bothers me, but I get why if that makes sense.

If you were to just use whatever is closest to factory, you can end up with situations where you have the GT86 on Eco tires for example - when pretty much no one who is going to track day that car IRL will be on stock rubber for too terribly long. And in that case, with both the GT86 and E30 M3 on semi slicks they are equal, while with Ecos it is in it's own world.

So yea, it bothers me, but I tell myself they are just tires that would be replaced anyways so it doesn't matter much. Even in cases like the 500 Abarth, I think a serious track day enthusiast would have serious track day enthusiast rubber for the car so it's not really all that weird it's on megagrip (TM) tires.

I wish we could specify compounds better though, because most cars are more fun on less sticky rubber.
 
For me this DLC was a pleasant surprise. I didn't expected to like these cars so much. Time Attack Supra is definitely my favourite from this pack and I'd love to see more time attack cars in AC.

TA Supra behaves badly enough to be very enjoyable to drive if that makes any sense. :)
And of course there's THE sound of a TURBO... :whistling:
 
Quite like it though I agree the value is low if you're not into street cars. Lucky me I don't mind going Top Gear on the track every now and again. Still wish they'd given it a while longer and gone the dream pack route with a track. No early bird discount this time either.

I do like the MX5 Cup though, probably going to be a favorite online. Only thing that troubles me is how stable and planted the car is compared to iRacing. They feel like completely different cars and I can't help but shake the feeling that either AC or iRacing got it wrong. I'll need to try it outside of the special events and try some other track settings.
 
Good to hear, as I said I need to take it somewhere else then Mugello@what I'm guessing is optimal grip. Like you very limited time in it so far but boy howdy it's planted in the special event.
 
Started with the RX7 yesterday night, and didn't even bother touching anything else because I just couldn't stop LOL, and that was the stock one.. didn't even try the tuned car. Was totally set to be disappointed since I had high hopes for that thing but nope, it met my expectations and beyond. Will try to drive the other cars today hopefully, if I care enough about them. The brap brap life is real. xD
