A new car coming to Assetto Corsa in 2020, and it's a Ferrari? Sounds like a good opportunity to dust off the racing gloves and take it out for a spin if you ask me...
  • Testing the upcoming Ferrari 488 Challenge EVO.
  • New car coming to Assetto Corsa as part of Hublot Ferrari Esport Series.
  • Car will be made freely available to players who register for the series.

Yes, unbelievably we've had two new manufacturer supported high profile car releases for Assetto Corsa in the last couple of weeks, firstly with the stunning KTM X-Bow GT4 that dropped on July 26th, and now the recent news that Ferrari plan to release their 488 Challenge EVO race car as part of an upcoming new official esport series.

Frankly, I'm delighted to see new and high quality content in Assetto Corsa, as it has served as a great opportunity to reacquaint myself with the simulation after a significant period of time away, and helps to breathe new life into a title that continues to be expanded in impressive ways by the modding community.

So, an official Ferrari in a legendary sim... that just cries out for a video don't you think? Here is my thoughts and impressions from the upcoming Ferrari 488 Challenge EVO in Assetto Corsa:

The Ferrari Hublot Esport Series is set to begin in September 2020 for both Professional and Amateur sim racers, with registrations for the series open to EU residents over the age of 18 from August 7th. Those players who register for the series will receive this new Ferrari, along with a selection of custom liveries that will be used throughout the duration of the championship.

The 488 Challenge EVO is as the name suggests, and evolution of the already well established one make series racer - having been revealed to the world at the end of 2019 and set to take centre stage for the 2020 racing season. Benefiting from increased aerodynamic performance, more power, extra grip and improved safety features alongside the more aggressive styling characteristics over its predecessor, the car absolutely looks on point in both real and virtual environments - but what does it feel like to drive? Well, check out the video within this article to find out!

Assetto Corsa is available now on both PC and console.

Got questions about AC? Want to check out the latest mods? Worry not, we've got just the place for you - the Assetto Corsa sub forum here at RaceDepartment. Head over, say hello and enjoy the wonders of our exceptional community.

Asseto Corsa was my holly grail of simulation for a couple of years.
Even without the mods the graphics are still gorgeous, the sounds are great, the tracks are beautiful, and I thought the driving experience was top notch.
Then I bought a used belt driven wheel and slightly upgraded my PC in order to give rFactor2 a try.
That was it. No more Asseto for me. I literally opened my eyes.
I tried all FFB mods, and none of them did the trick.
The biggest problem for me was a completely unrealistic low speed oversteer in many cars, and an utterly bad car behavior when driven over the limit. It was like driving on ice, especially over kerbs at high speeds.
Cars tend to lose grip in situations where they shouldn't.
The AI is also horrendously stupid.
rFactor2 is so much more believable.
It's a shame because I loved Asseto.

An AC thread would not be complete without someone coming here to let us know how great and superior RF2 is to AC or any other sim for that matter. To that person, we are glad for you that you found bliss, we have had plenty of opportunity to try RF2 in the 7 years that title has been out and most of us, according to steam chart, prefer driving in AC.
You never told me you was a philosopher :whistling:

As a Aussie for the first time ever i feel sad that im here in Australia :o
I wonder what format the mod file will be ? Hopefully it will just make its way on the sim black market for all us who will not be able to get to the EU ....thanks Human Malware :(

Don't worry, I live right next door to Italy, Germany, France and Austria - it's a 3 hour drive to any of them, but as we're not in the EU I can't enter either.

In the absence of the car at least you've got creatures that can kill you from 10 feet away to keep you thrilled and amused. Best I've got is the potential for buggering off a mountain, and it's a pain in the arse to get up there in the first place.

I must agree CC..and what is that thing about living in glass houses? :coffee:

I need this car to go with my ts pc racer 488 challenge edition but I'm in Canada. This is stupid, it shouldn't be region restricted. I hope someone leaks this, I didnt buy all dlcs to be missing a car from my favourite brand...

But it’s not a DLC, you wouldn’t be missing an official Kunos car.

Don’t know why everyone is getting upset over something they didn’t even know was coming.

rFactor 2 is a very good simulator, but graphically it's more like a game from 2000 than a game from 2020. AC looks much much better. It may be the ultimate and last simulator for many of us, because increasing the resolution and framerate with new generation VR headsets will only be possible with the games with have now, not with upcoming titles, that will be more hardware demanding. So, we better take care of AC, because I think it will last many many years and we will enjoy it even more than now as we will able to max it out and run it at higher resolutions, with higher framerates, better FOV, etc.

It is quite remarkable, that the old dame AC is still on the top and far away from being outdated. I like very much the immersion of driving provided by AC - pimped with QM + Sol + RHMAC. This in combination with high quality DLCs and MODs as well make AC to my number one sim. Always worth to spent time offline & online. Congrats to Kunos. Well done.

Now I am really curious about the Ferrari Hublot Challenge - the only point I am missing is the link. I mean the download link ... :)

Cheers
Why do you think AC is outdated? Its newer than R3E and rF2... only ACC and AMS2 are newer releases. :p

I agree that AC looks more up to date, so to speak.
But something about the color palette in rF2 just looks more realistic to me. Asseto always appealed to me as somewhat cartoonish.
I admit, AC is good for one thing - road cars.
Driving a Lambo Miura down the Shuto Expressway is pure bliss.
But race cars, no.

Regarding Shuto and other big tracks, it's a pity the physics get so shakey with increasing track sizes. Kills the immersion for me. That is the reason why tracks like Shuto or Fonteny are missing from my installation.

On a side note (or rather the main note) I can't wait for this Ferrari!!!

You should switch the post-processing filter.

Oh definitely more realistic... nothing screams realism more than these “blobs” for background scenery...

There is no way they can prevent other regions not being allowed to drive leaked copy without locking the game in some special exe like Japan version of game did with Fuji track.

I really doubt Kunos would go that far. They tried to prevent ferrari f1 cars from being raced against others and well that simple one line of code that quickly got removed.

Someone will just leak the car when its released.
