Assetto Car Tuner does not work

When i select the "common" folder in the "steamapps" folder in Assetto Car Tuner, I get the "right folder was not selected" message.
Assetto Corsa is installed in this folder !
Does anyone know what's going wrong ?
Thank you in advance for your responses !

I cannot get the Tuner to work at all. I placed the folder of the tool in the rootfolder of AC (or do I need to unpack all and then into root!?) and when I select AC-rootfolder in the Tuner nothing happens. So I would be thankful for "how to get started at all" hints! Latest gameversion, SOL,CSP and all "legal" as well. Thank you.

Okay, first off, I wouldn't unzip it to my AC folder. You can unzip it anywhere you want. I have mine in C:\Garage\Tools. My garage folder is where all the mayhem occurs for my driving and racing sims.

Once you've unzipped it to a clean, well-lighted place, you have to select your Assetto Corsa folder. Something like, "C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\assettocorsa". Just pointing it to the "common" folder won't do. It doesn't know what all that stuff in there is.

Once you've pointed out your AC folder, you should be able to pick a car in the first drop down menu. Click the arrow on the right end of that first slot.

Then choose a name for your tune, such as, "Autoshift" or "Stage 1" or something. Click, "Create New Tune" under the name slot.

Now you should be able to choose your new tuning by name under, "Select Tune". Once it's selected, you can do basic tuning and click, "Apply", or venture into, "Advanced Tuning" and open files from the drop down to edit such as, "drivetrain.ini" or "engine.ini", etcetera.

When you've made your changes, exit, launch the game, and click the little red and white button by the car, typically labeled, "C" unless you change it in Content Manager. With that selected, go drive the car with your custom tuning.

HOWEVER! There's an easier way. Open Content Manager, go to the, "About" tab, and rapidly click on the version number. When it offers to enable Developer Mode, say yes.

Now go to "Content", "Cars", and pick a car. Look down toward the bottom of the window. See the new button that says, "Unpack Data"? Click it. The car's new, "Data" folder will open. You can now edit everything with Notepad, or better still, Notepad++ (best freebie out there!). BUT FIRST, go to the car's main folder and delete, "data.acd" or else AC will use that instead of your new, "Data" folder. Once that's gone, go edit your files.

By using Content Manager's Dev Mode, you won't create a lot of disk space-hogging parented folders with redundant files. And it's just more convenient this way.

Any questions?

Thx a lot for the huuuge answer (not to used to that TBH, but just saying, not complaining) and I will indeed give it another shot. However I do think to have tried that before, few times even and it does nuttin' - cannot point it to the directory of AC - but never giving up is one of me topics. Will report back. Thank ye. ;-)

One thought, don't delete "data.acd" simply right click and rename it to "data.acd.ORG" so if you ever want to go back it's easy.
I keep my mod zips squirreled away, so if I want the data.acd file back I can just go extract it again.

Also, I forgot to mention, if you enable Developer Mode in Content Manager, and you like your edits, you can click another button and pack up a new data.acd with another new button.
