You're obviously correct in that Hamilton got away with track limit infringements for over a third of the race.
The interesting thing is the stewards never insisted that Verstappen give the place back. The move could well have been legal, and probably was given that other drivers made the same move as Verstappen earlier in the race without any investigation.
Personally I think Verstappen should have held position, and would probably have been fine.

Voting is open for the RaceDepartment Bahrain Grand Prix 'Driver of the Day'.
Today the 2021 season got going under the lights of Bahrain.
There was drama before the race even began for one team, which created an opportunity for a front runner to make their debut for a new team by cutting their way through the field. The race saw a very close finish with plenty of action in the midfield to enjoy too. We also enjoyed good performances from some of the new rookies on today's grid, with one managing to score points having started outside of the top ten.
There are some good candidates for Driver of the Day this weekend, with a great show of overtaking ability from many, a strong comeback and some fantastic driving from a rookie. The dramatic battle in the closing laps provided drama and entertainment, with both drivers performing very well.
Don't forget to cast your vote for your winner, and let's get talking about what we hope to see for the rest of F1 2021.

So what did that teach us?
- Hamilton/Verstappen battle for most of the year probably, depending on development prowess.
- Redbull squandered that win

For me Sergio Perez was absolute class today. To have a car you're new to stop on you during the formation lap is tough. Knowing the procedure to get it going and to the end of the pitlane is a good first day in the office in itself given the circumstances. To then make it into the top five without the aid of a mid-race safety car is simply amazing.
Honourable mention for Yuki Tsunoda too, I was close to voting for him. First race in a Formula One car, and he was able to get the job done and pick up some points when his teammate got caught up in trouble, very respectable indeed.

Max had little bit of fear and a wiggle there on the outside of turn 4. Hamilton vs albon at red bull maybe in his mind. Very well done by lewis to make it very difficult for him.
Not bad, two horse race really.
The win should have been for MV - a bit messy going off the track (part of that was good defending), and then the tyre advantage became less noticeable.
It looks like red bull can win at least half the races this year, and the belgian/dutch prayers will be answered. No doubt.

Great race. Although a bit strange that one can drive every lap outside the curbs, and the other can’t.
He had to let him pass, at the corner Hamilton did every lap.

Take aways from race one:
- The Red Bull and the Mercedes look like a wonderful match for one another. Pretty much neck and neck on race pace. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
- Hats off to Ferrari for their recovery over the winter, the car is improved and the second Ferrari looks to be very capable in the hands of Carlos Sainz, who closed the gap to his teammate once in clean air.
- Rough day for Vettel. Picked up three penalty points yesterday and looks set for a few more today for causing a collision, finishing ahead only of a rookie in a Haas.
- That was a sensational flop from Mazepin.
