AC settings for VR with Pimax 5K Super, i5-8600k and GTX1080ti

One last update

Turns out the Klerm Pure config file is not as good as I thought. I only tried it at Spa and it was OK but at other tracks it is over-exposed/too bright.
So I have gone to the supplied pure_config_VR.ini or pure_config_VR_ppOff.ini files (I just compared them and they are actually identical), but they are still too flat.
Need to learn up on Pure Config settings to get it halfway between the supplied ones and Klerm one.

I will say however that with Pure Config I don't really see a need for those pesky frame dropping PP Filters :)

i figured out how to make standard pure config look good
just have to up the Light -> Reflections Level = 2
and I also noticed that I didn't have any car VAOs downloaded in CM so I went ahead and did that for all 176 cars.
my poor little 1080ti is crying for mercy but I am crying for joy :)
seriously it looks so good I think I can delay the upgrade to 3080ti and Pimax Crystal Light for another year at least !!

Definitely last update ;)

Changed Nvidia settings :
Anti Aliasing Mode = OFF - this seemed to make it better than any other AA setting I have tried
Low Latency Mode - ON - less CPU Utilisation
Texture Filtering - Anisotropic Sample Optimisation = ON - 3fps increase
Virtual Reality Pre-Rendered Frames = Use the 3D Application Setting and AC set Max Frame Latency = 1 - this reduced the ghosting effect I was having even at 80-90fps

Pure Config still running standard pure_config_VR with just Reflections Level = 2

This along with details in Post #20 is giving me high 80s FPS and a gorgeous stable image but GPU is running at 99% and high 80s temp. I can live with that until my watercooler gets here :)

Definitely saved me from having to upgrade Graphics Card until I can save enough for both a new card and Pimax Crystal Light but now there is also no hurry !!

I updated to a RTX3080 :)
Supposedly 60% faster but I couldn't increase my resolution without tanking the FPS :(
But I was able to increase other settings and get the image looking absolutely superb at 4662x2638 resolution and running at a solid 90fps and rarely dropping below 88 and never below 80 even in the middle of multi car pileups !!
So as much as I loved my 1080ti and it was very capable of running the Pimax 5k, the 3080 is another step up. I wouldn't say it was a really huge step and if budget is a consideration I would recommend the 1080ti over the 3080.

I also went from a 1080Ti to a 3080 (Ti in my case) and the fps gain was important although maybe not to and extent one could think a priori. I suppose it also depends on your CPU. Anyway, I can enjoy now my Pimax 5K with lots of details, CSP, ppfilters and all the eyecandy and I don't have to worry about my frames dropping from 90. When I get the 12K or whatever it will be named, I will not consider anything under a 5090 and a high end CPU.

I find the image far better without any PPF - what one are you running ?
Before I really started seriously trying to improve the image I was running 50-60fps and thought it was perfectly acceptable. But after running at 90 and dropping back even to low 80s I can notice a difference mainly with ghosting/stuttering (or whatever its called) of cars in the middle distance and mainly when they are turning (traveling across your view IOW). Its certainly not a killer to have that but once you get rid of it, its hard to go back :)

I use free stress and logging software if having problems btw. In this specific case log the CPU load on ALL cores, I’m sure it’s not the GPU but your CPU is holding up the RTX3080, and maybe in combination with the low RAM speed. Did you use XPM settings?
I suspect you have an Z370 or Z390 motherboard, so you could check for the best CPU upgrade in your motherboard. Maybe, if you are lucky, it’s the topdog for this Z370/390 the i9-9900KS, a binned CPU, then you could do the swap as these 9900KS that run at stock 5Ghz are very affordable now-a-days at the second market. Just guessing, but I think the 8700k would still bottlenecking your GPU. Selling your i5-8600k and you have for 100-150 euro extra an upgrade to an i9-9900ks, while for 50-100 euro the i7-9700k(f).
If not, I would consider a second hand 5800X3D with to keep the upgrade cost low, an AMD chipset BXXX motherboard that’s supporting your type of DDR4 RAM. Selling your old system and you have an upgrade for 150-225 euro extras. All depends on local second hand prices.

My CPU runs at 60% and GPU at 70%. Also shows as 50% headroom for CPU and 25% for GPU in OpenXR monitor. Running beautifully at solid 90fps and 4660x2880 resolution so I don't think there is anything wrong with my CPU or any need to upgrade anything :)
